Position Overview

Are you an experienced Science Teacher looking to bring your passion to the State of Connecticut and continue to transform the lives of Connecticut youth? If so, please consider joining our team at Ella T. Grasso Technical High School. At the State of Connecticut, Connecticut Technical Education and Career System (CTECS) we are recruiting for a Science Instructor to work in Groton, CT.

In this role you will create engaging and rigorous learning experiences that support students with diverse learning needs, foster critical thinking, problem‑solving, and a strong foundation in high school science.

The ideal candidate will bring strong content knowledge, effective instructional practices, and a passion for helping students succeed in both individual and collaborative learning environments. You will design and implement purposeful lesson plans aligned with curriculum standards and instructional goals, utilizing differentiated strategies and varied assessment methods. You will cultivate a positive classroom culture that promotes respect, intellectual engagement, active participation, and effective classroom management.

Collaboration is an essential component; you will work closely with guidance staff, special education personnel, and support service educators to ensure accommodations and individualized supports are implemented.

In addition to classroom instruction, this position requires a commitment to professional growth, reflective practice, and communication with students and families. You will actively participate in professional learning communities, uphold high standards of professionalism and confidentiality, and support the mission and values of the district while maintaining a safe, ethical, student-centered school environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Planning and Preparation: engage in intentional planning to prepare lesson plans that achieve clear objectives, use appropriate techniques, and serve the needs of all learners through differentiation.
  • Knowledge and use of varied instructional practices and resources to design instructional learning opportunities and assessments.
  • Collaborate with guidance personnel and other support service educators to assist students with special programming, ensuring IEP and 504 accommodations are implemented.
  • Classroom Environment: develop mutual respect and rapport with students, establish a culture for learning, manage classroom procedures, organize the physical space to maximize learning opportunities.
  • Instruction: effectively communicate with students, use inquiry, questioning, and discussion techniques, keep students intellectually engaged, follow the scope and sequence of the approved curriculum, design instruction for individual and small group settings, use assessments continually, demonstrate flexibility and responsiveness.
  • Professional Responsibilities: reflect on teaching practices, maintain accurate records and ongoing communication with students and families, participate in building and district-level professional development, engage in professional communities, adhere to state codes of responsibility, implement board policies, maintain confidentiality, report suspected child abuse.
Qualifications
  • Must possess an active State of Connecticut teaching certificate in the Chemistry endorsement.
  • Well-versed in high school science curricula.
  • Professional experience related to teaching Science, fostering learning, classroom management, behavior intervention plans.
  • Experience with varied assessments to inform instruction and promote learning.
  • Proficient in oral and written communication, and in using computer software such as Microsoft Office and Google Products.
Special Requirements

Incumbents must possess a valid certificate issued by the Connecticut State Board of Education with a secondary school endorsement at the time of appointment.
