The State of Connecticut, Connecticut Technical Education and Career System (CTECS) is recruiting a Durational PE/Health Instructor to join our team at Ella T. Grasso Southern Technical High School located in Killingly, CT.

To be considered for this position, Durational PE/Health Instructors must possess an active State of Connecticut teaching certificate in one of the following areas: 043 Health, PK–12 and 044 Physical Education, PK–12 OR be eligible for a State of Connecticut teaching certificate in subject area (includes ARC candidates).

Position Highlights
  • Schedule:

    first shift, full time (35 hours per week) Monday through Friday.
  • Location:

    Ella T. Grasso Southern Technical High School
  • Salary: VS01-VS02, derived from the State Vocational Federation of Teachers.
  • Academic Calendar: CTECS follows a ten-month academic calendar (188 days per year.)
Your Role as a Durational PE/Health Instructor at Ella T. Grasso Southern Technical High School

A CTECS Physical Education and Health instructor is responsible for educating students with teaching practices that reflect high expectations and current pedagogy of teaching and learning methods, strategies, and technologies in Physical Education and Health e.g., student-centered, physically engaging, gradual release of responsibility, differentiation, student discourse, and blended-learning; communicate with parents; create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning; participate in professional learning.

About Us

For over 100 years, CTECS has been the leading force in Career Technical Education (CTE) in the State of Connecticut. CTECS operates 17 diploma-granting technical high schools, one technical education center and two airframe mechanics and aircraft maintenance programs. The school system provides a direct employment pipeline for high school students and adult learners.

Purpose of Job Class (Nature of Work)

In the Connecticut Technical Education and Career System this class is accountable for educating students in academic and trade coursework.

Preferred Qualifications
  • State of Connecticut teaching certificate:
    Active State of Connecticut teaching certificate (#043 Health 7-12; #044 Physical Education 7-12 or Eligible for a State of Connecticut teaching certificate in subject area (includes ARC candidates)
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year university or college.
  • Experience in high school Physical Education and Health curricula.
Special Requirements

Incumbents must possess at time of appointment a valid certificate issued by the Connecticut State Board of Education in accordance with the Certification Regulations Concerning State Educator Certificates, Permits and Authorizations, with a secondary school endorsement.
