Marine Science Educator

Project Oceanology seeks an innovative, experienced, and dedicated educator to deliver inspiring marine science and environmental education programs to summer campers. Applicants should have knowledge of marine science and broad interest in oceans, including coastal ecosystems, fisheries resources, human interactions, and management issues. Delivery of marine science programs aboard research vessels, on shoreline programs, in marine laboratories, and in classrooms will be required.

Considerable physical stamina is required to work aboard vessels and outdoors for long periods, including during inclement weather. The position requires a team player with knowledge of science pedagogy, sound judgment, independence, initiative, maturity, and excellent observation and communication skills.

This temporary full-time position will commence June 19 and conclude August 18, 2023. Forty hours of work will be scheduled weekly, with work assignments supporting day and residential camps. Camps are in session weekly from Sunday – Friday, both day and evening hours. Although not a required certification, applicants with a valid USCG OUPV license will receive first consideration.

Education, Experience and Training:

• BA/BS degree in biology, marine science, environmental science, or related field preferred.
• Formal or informal education experience required.
• Outdoor and/or marine science education program experience highly desired.
• Experience using oceanographic equipment in an educational environment highly desired.
• Proficiency with Gmail/Google suite, MS Word, MS Excel required.

Certificates/Licenses:

• First Aid/CPR and medical administration certifications are required; candidate must have or be able to obtain those certifications during training offered by Project Oceanology
• USCG OUPV license is highly desired.
