OverviewAssistant Radiation Safety Officer (ARSO) reporting to the Industrial Radiation Safety Officer. The ARSO in conjunction with the Corporation’s RSO is responsible to insure compliance to U.S. Nuclear Regulatory and various state regulations pertaining to industrial Radiography Safety and various other programs. The successful candidate must be able to obtain and maintain training/qualification in accordance with the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission rules and regulations Title 10, Chapter 1, Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) Part 34.43 or Rules and Regulations for the control of Radiation State of Rhode Island 216‑RICR‑40‑20‑10.6.3 including:
- 40 hours of formal (program specific) classroom training in the fundamentals of radiation safety, radiation detection instruments, industrial radiography equipment used, and licensing and regulatory requirements
- Proficiency in submarine drawing interpretation
- Proficiency with math (inverse square law) and geometry to facilitate calculation for radiation boundaries and radiography station/isotope layout
- 320 hours OJT of gamma and X‑Ray radiography related experience
- Ability to obtain and retain an American Society for Nondestructive Testing (ASNT) Industrial Radiographer Radiation Safety Program (IRRSP) Certification (written and practical exam—renewal every five years) or equivalent
- Ability to medically obtain and maintain a personnel dosimeter (TLD)
- Radiation Safety Officer training
- Radiation Safety Program Administrator training
- Source Retrieval training
- Industrial radiography equipment maintenance training
Occasional travel is associated with this position.
QualificationsRequired:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Must have the ability to medically obtain and maintain a personnel dosimeter (TLD)
- Must be able to pass and maintain radiographer G qualification and radiation safety training
Preferred:
- 5+ years experience in Quality Assurance, Quality Control, Radiation Safety
- 1+ years experience as a certified industrial radiographer
- Current ASNT (American Society for Non‑Destructive Testing) IRRSP (Industrial Radiography Radiation Safety Personnel) certification or equivalent
- In lieu of IRRSP or equivalent certification, the Manager will consider alternatives when the applicant has appropriate training and/or experience in the field of ionizing radiation, and in addition, has adequate formal training with respect to the establishment and maintenance of a radiation safety protection program.
