Position: EHS Specialist FLSA:
Exempt

Reports to:

Director of Safety, Security, and Facilities Primary

Hours:

M-F 8am-5pm

Position Summary:

The EHS Specialist position is responsible for promoting and improving safety awareness with the emphasis on preventing incidents, injuries, and ensuring regulatory compliance. Acts as the main point of contact for any safety related issues. Assists with recognizing and assessing hazards in the workplace and recommending corrective measures. Works closely with leadership to ensure company policies and procedures are followed and promotes best practices.

Conducts required safety training and provides coaching as necessary. Additional responsibilities will be to perform emergency drills, training, inspections/audits, and assist with maintaining compliance program requirements.

Key

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Assist with development and implementation of company safety and health programs, policies, and procedures
  • Help to ensure compliance with ISO
    14001 and ISO
    45001 requirements
  • Maintain facility SDS system and GHS labeling requirements
  • Maintain injury records and conduct incident investigations/root cause analysis
  • Participate in management of corrective actions from investigations, inspections and audits
  • Facilitate monthly EHS training according to training plan and conduct new employee orientation
  • Conduct PPE assessments and safety/hazard risk assessments
  • Administer Safety Observation and Lessons Learned Programs
  • Conduct routine facility safety inspections and audits
  • Help to foster a work environment that promotes environment conservation and continuous improvement
  • Facilitate Safety Committee meetings
  • Ensures compliance with all regulatory related laws and standards
  • Promote a culture of safety
  • Active member of emergency response team

  • Must be able to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Handle confidential information with complete security
Requirements for Consideration
  • BS Degree in Environmental, Health, and Safety field (work experience may be substituted)
  • Solid understanding of general safety laws and regulations (OSHA, NIOSH, ANSI, NFPA, EPA) desired
  • 3 years experience working in a manufacturing setting (marine industry preferred)
  • OSHA 10/30hr General Industry certification preferred
  • ISO 14001 and 45001 experience preferred
Physical Requirements
  • Must be capable of physical exertion such as long periods of standing, sitting, walking, recurring bending, crouching, stooping, stretching and reaching
  • Must be capable of recurring lifting or handling heavy items or similar activities from ground level to above the head with weights of up to 50 pounds throughout the work shift
