Overview
Department 341 Welding & NDT Engineering Suppliers and Strategic Sourcing is looking for an additional team member for the supplier development welding engineering group. The group supports Electric Boat suppliers and internal engineering organizations with respect to the welding and fabrication of the components used in the construction of nuclear submarines.
Basic job responsibilities include:
* Review and approval of supplier welding procedures
* Review and approval of weld repairs performed by suppliers
* Providing technical guidance and expertise with respect to construction support, problem resolution and corrective actions for welding performed by suppliers
* Providing support to suppliers qualifying new welding procedures
* Evaluating the capabilities and capacity of prospective suppliers
* Maintaining company standards, procedures, best practices, and process improvements in the field of welding
Responsibilities
* Ability to work both independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team
* Strong verbal and written communication skills including the ability to communicate with both a technical and nontechnical audience
* Candidate must be highly motivated, function both independently and as part of a muti-discipline team, and interact with other groups and organizations including SUPSHIP and NAVSEA customers in an engineering environment
* Ability to effectively prioritize work and support multiple projects at the same time
Qualifications
Required:
* Bachelor of Science degree or higher in engineering
* 5+ years of post graduate related engineering experience
Preferred:
* Degree in Materials Science or Welding Engineering
* Three or more years of engineering experience in aerospace, defense, heavy fabrication or shipbuilding applications
* The ability to read and understand component specifications, military specifications and engineering drawings
* Experience working with basic arc welding processes and an understanding of the fundamentals of welding metallurgy
* Experience with the development and qualification of weld procedures
