Engineer - Nuclear Overview
D421 Nuclear Quality Control Engineering seeks a highly motivated Engineer. The role supports new construction and maintenance of post-delivery nuclear submarines.
Primary duties include review of drawings, specifications, and technical documents to ensure all required inspection and documentation are identified. Additional duties involve leading investigations of quality deficiencies, assisting functional areas in problem resolution, and maintaining shipyard work procedures for welding, mechanical joints, piping cleanliness, completion inspections, nuclear material control, electrical and structural inspections.
Responsibilities also cover technical direction on quality initiatives, process improvement development, and support for Virginia and Columbia class disclosure/drawing reviews and team initiatives. Candidates will lead investigations, assist functional areas, and engage with Engineering, Operations, Nuclear Test, Inspection, and Customer Representatives.
Responsibilities- Assess product and process performance to identify quality defects.
- Ensure compliance with quality specifications and maintain quality standards.
- Proficient in causal analysis tools and continuous improvement approaches.
- Interface with cross-functional teams to prevent recurrence of quality issues.
Required:
- Bachelor of Science or higher in Engineering or related technical degree.
- 0-5 years of post‑graduate engineering experience.
- Ability to read and interpret company policies and procedures.
- Proficient in MS Office Suite and engineering related software.
- Ability to work individually, in teams, with other groups, and with customers.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance through the DoD.
Preferred:
- Experience in structural, electrical, piping or mechanical systems; engineered quality control/assurance and military specifications.
- Training or experience in causal analysis / root cause identification.
- Knowledge of EB's electronic systems, nuclear processes, and VIRGINIA/COLUMBIA Class design/build methodology.
- Proficiency in NX/Teamcenter.
- Familiarity with IPDE tools and processes.
- Strong communication skills.
