Systems Engineering Supervisor
This Supervisor position is a new role within the VIRGINIA Class Propulsion Plant Fluid Systems and Components department with responsibilities more focused on driving VIRGINIA Class design change and improvement initiatives. The VIRGINIA Class Propulsion Plant Fluid Systems and Components department currently consists of five groups inside three disciplines: (1) Reactor Plant and Steam Plant Fluid Systems, (2) Steam Valves and Heat Exchangers and Pump Engineered Components, and (3) Test Equipment.
These groups are cognizant over respective piping systems, components, or test equipment assemblies and responsible for developing sound technical solutions to emerging construction and test problems arising at new construction shipyards. Currently, these groups are also cognizant of future design changes associated with the respective systems or components. This new role will establish a department structure to more reliably support design change and improvement initiatives while working with the more construction focused groups to drive innovation and implementation.
- Driving completion of propulsion plant fluid system or component design changes as part of VIRGINIA Block VII engine room design modifications.
- Prioritizing VIRGINIA Technology Insertion tasking by conducting and facilitating feasibility studies, design development, and supporting on-hull implementation of system and component design changes to incorporate construction span reduction, performance, manufacturability, or reliability improvements. Frequent interaction with component vendors, customers, and government laboratories may be required, including occasional travel to customer or vendor facilities.
- Supporting migration of propulsion plant system drawings from CATIA to Teamcenter (Cutover).
Required:
- Bachelor's of Science degree or higher in Engineering or related technology degree.
- 4+ years of professional post-graduate engineering experience.
Preferred:
- Bachelor's of Science or higher in Mechanical, Marine, Aerospace, or Manufacturing Engineering.
- Active DOD Secret clearance.
- Prior Naval Nuclear Program experience, specifically experience in design improvement.
- Above average written and verbal communication skills.
- Organization, self‑motivation, desire for continued learning, and a questioning attitude.
- Ability to construct and train a team of engineers.
