Facility Maintenance/Plumbing Systems Technician
Responsible for maintenance and repair of building mechanical and plumbing systems at the client site in Groton, CT. This is a team‑oriented role delivering best‑in‑class service to meet operational demands.
Job ScheduleMonday‑Friday, 2:30PM to 11PM. Additional hours may be required based on business demand.
Responsibilities- Respond to work orders, troubleshoot, and perform preventive and predictive maintenance on general facilities systems equipment including plumbing, mechanical equipment, pumps, piping, backflows, and drains.
- Repair, maintain and operate building systems such as chilled water, reheat, potable and non‑potable hot water distribution, distilled water and reverse osmosis systems, lab gas systems, high and low vacuum systems, instrument air compressors and dryers, and waste discharge systems.
- Comply with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and Good Laboratory Practices (GLP).
- Perform periodic maintenance on backflow prev enters, eyewash/safety showers, and water filtration systems.
- Follow lock‑out/tag‑out procedures and safety controls.
- Inspect major equipment and operating systems, taking corrective actions as necessary.
- Operate hand tools including grinders, saws, impact wrenches, standard wrenches, drills and similar instruments.
- Ensure mechanical operations, standards, controls and specifications are maintained at a high level of quality.
- Assemble, install and repair pipes, fittings and fixtures of heating, water and drainage systems according to specifications and plumbing codes.
- Install and repair bathroom plumbing fixtures.
- Diagnose, troubleshoot and repair industrial facility mechanical systems and equipment.
- Perform preventive and predictive maintenance inspections and actions such as water filtration and pipe‑fitting repairs.
- Work within a team environment, sometimes with minimal supervision.
- Provide excellent customer service and maintain a safe work environment.
- Communicate with customers during site emergencies.
- Other duties as assigned by management.
- Minimum five (5) years’ experience in mechanical maintenance and plumbing.
- Hands‑on experience in maintenance, repair and operation of mechanical building systems.
- Physically able to pass a medical evaluation for respirator use and perform fit test for respirators.
- Ability to read and understand documents displayed on a computer or printed materials.
- Fluency in Microsoft Windows, Word, Excel, Outlook and SharePoint.
- Valid driver’s license issued by the State Department of Motor Vehicles.
- Ability to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization; U.S. citizenship or permanent residency required; no sponsorship offered.
- Regularly lift to 50lbs, use ladders, steps, scaffolding, perform repetitive motions (bend, stoop, squat, kneel, stretch, reach, wrist movement), and walk extensively during shift.
- Wear steel‑toe shoes, safety glasses, gloves, hard hats, and other personal protective equipment as required.
- Technical degree preferred.
- Experience in GMP or similar regulated environment such as hospitals, biomedical or pharmaceutical campuses.
- Ability to read repair manuals, specifications, drawings and schematic diagrams.
- Experience with a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS); EAMS experience is a plus.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Hourly rate $32.00 – $41.00, determined by education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities and market data. This range is a good‑faith estimate; actual compensation may vary.
