Position Overview

The First-Class Welder is responsible for performing high-quality welding on a variety of materials and assemblies while meeting strict engineering specifications and safety standards.

Essential Functions
  • Perform 100% x‑ray quality welds on chromes/stainless/Inconel/carbon/nickel/copper/copper nickel using GTAW process.
  • Work in other crafts at levels appropriate to training and skills as requested by project supervision.
  • Assist with joint fit‑up and final weld joint alignment, including some rigging and lifting if necessary.
  • Proficient with SMAW/STICK, GTAW/TIG, 6G position welding.
  • Plan, lay‑out, weld, install, and repair all types of pipe and similar tubular products according to plans, specifications, welding codes, and industry standards using hand‑welding or flame‑cutting equipment.
  • Use hand tools and power tools to properly measure, cut, assemble, weld, and install structural steel components; install supports, valves, and other control equipment; test installed systems and install related items according to plans and specifications.
  • Weld components in flat, vertical, horizontal, or overhead positions; clamp, tack‑weld, heat‑bend, grind, or bolt component parts to obtain required configurations for welding.
  • Set up machines, safely run lines, adjust gas flow and pressure to obtain desired flames; knowledge of welding equipment, electrodes, fluxes, shielded gases, and welding processes.
  • Weld with a mirror.
  • Occasionally work in confined spaces with exposure to extreme temperatures, chemicals, and radiation during an 8‑to‑12‑hour shift.
  • Welds on site must pass quality audits continuously.
  • Knowledge of carbon steel, stainless steel, copper‑nickel, nickel‑copper, Inconel, and other alloy metals.
  • Understand, support, and follow lockout/tag‑out procedures; attend site‑specific training and follow procedures outlined in training.
  • Follow established safety rules and regulations and maintain a safe and clean work environment.
  • Use effective verbal and written communication skills; perform basic arithmetic rapidly and accurately.
  • Produce quality work, meeting requirements of plans, specifications, and industry standards.
  • Read and understand plans and specifications, including diagrams, prints, orthographic and isometric drawings; visualize 2D drawings in 3D.
  • Comply with Company Code of Conduct and jobsite policies.
  • Perform all other job‑related duties as requested by supervisor.
  • Experience in submarine piping is a plus.
Requirements
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Must obtain and maintain a Secret‑level security clearance.
  • Demonstrated experience performing the welding processes listed above.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
