Introduction
The State of Connecticut Military Department (CTMD) is accepting applications for a Skilled Maintainer position located at the TASM-G, located in Groton, CT. The Connecticut Army National Guard's Theater Aviation Sustainment facility is located in Groton, CT, and is responsible for depot level maintenance of Army National Guard Aviation assets.
Position Highlights- Full-time, First shift (Monday – Friday, 7:30AM – 3:30PM, 37.5 hours)
- Successful completion of a federal background investigation required before permanent appointment.
- Requires regular in-state travel using state vehicles and a valid, unexpired driver’s license.
Accountable for performing skilled maintenance tasks, requiring prior experience or training, in addition to lower level duties. Tasks include building and equipment maintenance, grounds care as a supervisor, and assistance to qualified craft workers.

Knowledge, Skill and AbilityConsiderable knowledge of methods, tools, equipment, materials and procedures of the specific trade or work area. Knowledge of maintenance problems and their proper handling. Manual and machine operations skills, interpersonal skills, and oral and written communication skills. Ability to follow written and oral instructions and utilize computer software.
Minimum Qualifications – General Experience- Two (2) years of experience in one of: skilled trades; landscape maintenance or vegetable gardening; operation of motor trucks or large buses.
Graduation from a vocational or technical school with a diploma in a maintenance trade area may be substituted for the general experience requirement.
Preferred Qualifications- Experience assisting a trades person in construction, painting, plastering, carpentry, electrical, or plumbing tasks.
- Grounds maintenance experience (mowing, weeding, raking, shoveling, snow and ice removal with light truck).
- Experience operating and maintaining basic hand/power tools and equipment such as auto-scrubbers, buffers, carpet cleaners, zero turn mowers, and string trimmers.
- Experience in recordkeeping for preventive maintenance, vehicle assignments, and work orders. Proficiency in Microsoft Office or similar platforms.
- Valid Connecticut driver’s license and experience operating automobiles, trucks, or complex motorized equipment.
- Experience maintaining HVAC mechanical equipment.
May need to possess and retain appropriate current licenses, permits, and certifications as required by the appointing authority.
Physical RequirementsMust have adequate physical strength, stamina, agility, visual and auditory acuity, and maintain fitness to perform job duties. Physical examination may be required.
Working ConditionsMay need to lift moderate to heavy weights and be exposed to dust, heat, noise, extreme weather, and risk of injury. May require completion of an asbestos removal program and use of protective equipment such as respirators and safety goggles.
