Overview
The Bonding Chemist will work extensively in the Bonding/Blending market segments for Powder coating technologies. This role requires close collaboration with Marketing, Sales, and the end customers to advance technologies and meet product performance expectations. This role will act as a subject matter expert for all bonded/blended powder coating products.
Responsibilities- Communicating effectively and promptly with managers, customers, vendors, and other stakeholders.
- Demonstrating innovation and initiative in developing new bonded and blended powder coating products.
- Leading technical projects with minimal supervision.
- Plan, schedule, execute work, analyze results, and make recommendations based on those results.
- Develop in depth knowledge of powder coatings formulation and manufacturing methodology for bonded/blended powder coatings products.
- Provide Quality and Operations support for scale-up of new products.
- Applying specialized knowledge/skills with polymers, adhesion, raw materials, instrumentation, extrusion, additives, and substrates to develop superior performance coatings and perform root cause analysis when problems arise.
- Identify potential Continuous Improvement opportunities and drive necessary actions for implementation.
- Adhering to safety, quality (e.g., ISO), and housekeeping policies and guidelines.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
Must be legally authorized to work in the country for which you are applying for employment (without now or in the future needing sponsorship for employment work visa and/or permanent residence status).
Bachelor's degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Math field.
Must be at least 18 years of age.
Minimum of 3 years of experience in powder coatings R&D.
Experience in formulating coatings and products for commercial applications.
Expertise regarding adhesion and testing of coatings on various substrates.
Full-scale manufacturing experience in powder coatings bonding technology.
Familiarity with color matching theory and instrumentation.
Understands instrumentation and test methods needed to quantify behavior of coatings/ polymers.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Master of Science or Chemistry.
Experience with bonding process.
7+ years in powder coatings research and development, or combination of R&D and manufacturing/engineering experience.
Experience in formulating powder coatings for outdoor applications, single and two-coat systems.
Experience in data visualization software to analyze large datasets.
Experience at designing, executing and analyzing experimental studies to characterize formulation impact on product performance.
Understands synthesis of polyester and epoxy resins.
Deep understanding of powder coating raw materials including resins, crosslinkers, pigments, extenders, and performance additives.
Understanding of performance requirements for bonded/blended powder coatings.
Travel Requirements: 10%
