Position OverviewA crushing plant operator is responsible for operating, maintaining, and monitoring equipment, including crushers, screens, conveyors, and bins, to ensure the safe and efficient production of crushed materials like aggregates. This includes tasks such as operating machinery, maintaining equipment, and adhering to safety protocols.
Key ResponsibilitiesOperating Machinery:
- Operating crushers, conveyors, screens, and other related equipment.
- Ensuring equipment is functioning properly and efficiently.
- Crushing materials to the desired size and consistency.
- Transporting materials within the plant.
Maintenance and Repair:
- Performing routine maintenance, including cleaning, lubricating, and inspecting equipment.
- Identifying and reporting any equipment malfunctions or maintenance needs.
- Assisting with repairs or maintenance tasks as needed.
- Maintaining a clean and organized work environment.
Safety and Compliance:
- Following all safety guidelines and procedures, including wearing personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Ensuring compliance with MSHA regulations and company policies.
- Conducting daily pre-shift safety workplace exams.
- Reporting any safety hazards or accidents immediately.
Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintaining records of production activities, equipment maintenance, and safety inspections.
- Recording and reporting production data, downtime incidents, and maintenance schedules.
Other Duties:
- Assisting with other plant tasks as needed, such as cleaning or general maintenance.
- Receiving and processing incoming materials.
- Preparing materials for crushing, such as using a hammer.
- Checking stockpiles and ensuring the required quality.
- Managing metallic materials recovered from the plant.
- Display a professional and courteous attitude to co-workers, supervisors, and the general public at all times.
- Must be willing to travel and work away from home when required.
- Must be willing to work nights and weekends when necessary.
- Report to the assigned job site ready to begin work at the designated start time.
- Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures as outlined in the Manual of Safety Practices and Procedures.
- Strict adherence to Shelly Company policies and procedures as outlined in the Company Book of Policies.
- Willingness to work in a team environment and assist co-workers or supervisors with other duties as required.
- Timely and regular attendance is an expectation of performance for all Shelly Company employees. Employees will be held accountable for adhering to their workplace schedule.
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
Education and ExperienceLess than or equal to a high school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Prior heavy equipment experience, including crushing operation helpful.
Language SkillsAbility to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively to customers or employees of organization.
Mathematical SkillsAbility to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
Reasoning AbilityAbility to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Personal Protective EquipmentIndividuals are required to wear personal protective equipment in designated operations and production areas as stated by OSHA and/or MSHA. Protective equipment that may be required, but not limited to, for this position: welding gloves, hard hat, hearing protection, padlocks for lockout/tagout, safety (hard toe) shoes, use of seatbelt and harnesses when required.
