SUMMARY

The Set-Up Machinist is responsible for setting up CNC machining centers, getting parts through First Article approval, and setting up Operators for success during production. The Set-Up Machinist will ensure that the responsibilities of the position are completed in a manner that is accurate, efficient, timely, thoughtful, honest and best supports Advance's mission.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

• Setting up and tearing down machines within the quoted time and to meet quoted part cycle time
• Providing production cost estimates for use in quotin
• Coordinating with Production group on production plans, scheduling, and improvements needed
• Collaborating with Quality Group to validate first article
• Developing part production processes and setting operators up for successful production
• Monitoring production of parts and addressing issues as they arise

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS

• Proficient reading, writing, and computer skills; strong math skills
• The ability to interpret many types of engineering drawings, including those with GD&T
• Strong understanding of tooling, work holdings, and different types of metals
• Strong understanding of CNC programming
• A broad knowledge of the types and appropriate use of measurement equipment, including CMMs
• A broad knowledge of CNC machines and related equipment and accessories
• The ability to read and edit G-code and M-code

PREFERENCES

• Minimum of one year machining experience with setting up milling machines

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS

• Mobility:
  Standing for long durations, walking on uneven surfaces, navigating tight spaces; operate power tools and hand tools.
• Manual dexterity:
  Fine motor skills needed for handling equipment
• Lifting and carrying:
  Ability to lift shop materials, tools, and equipment up to 50 lbs.
• Environmental tolerance:
  Adapting to changing temperatures, humidity levels, and potential exposure to hazardous materials. While performing the duties of the job, exposure to moving mechanical parts and vehicles.
• Safety awareness:
  Comfort with wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) like gloves, goggles, and safety footwear.
• Ability to safely operate a forklift.
• Ability to pass a criminal background check, pre-employment drug testing, as well as periodic random drug screening.
