In accordance with the Mission and Guiding Behaviors, the Oncology Nurse Navigator is a professional whose clinical nursing expertise guides patients, families and their caregivers to informed decision‑making within the Ohio Nurse Practice Act framework.
Key Responsibilities- Provide nursing care and ensure an environment of patient safety, promoting evidence‑based practice and quality initiatives.
- Identify, educate and guide patients with a cancer diagnosis through the healthcare system for timely screening, diagnosis, treatment and increased supportive care across the continuum.
- Assess financial needs for all cancer and outpatient infusion patients, reviewing insurance, disease state and treatment regimen.
- Proactively anticipate and address financial toxicity through insurance optimization and copay assistance programs.
- Educate qualifying patients regarding available external assistance programs.
- Maintain strong working relationships with treatment team members (physicians, social workers, nurse navigators, etc.).
- Report quarterly data on savings and/or recovery of payment generated.
- Serve as a subject‑matter expert to the Financial Navigation Team and the Revenue Cycle Committee.
- Actively participate in meetings with senior leadership to present information.
- Graduate from a school of nursing with a BSN (required).
- Current licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Ohio.
- Oncology nursing certification (OCN) preferred.
- Minimum of three years recent and relevant oncology clinical experience.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to plan, organize and manage patient care.
- Compassion and sensitivity to highly emotional issues.
- Effective public speaking and establishing a positive public presence.
- Strong leadership and teaching abilities.
- Experience in program development preferred.
- Ability to holistically assess problematic situations and initiate action.
- Ability to work independently in a variety of settings.
- Knowledge of internal and external resources/services for the population.
