In accordance with the Mission and Guiding Behaviors, the Oncology Nurse Navigator, within the framework of the Ohio Nurse Practice Act, is a professional whose clinical nursing expertise guides patients, families and their caregivers to informed decision‑making. In collaboration with other members of the healthcare team, the Navigator identifies, educates and guides the patient with a cancer diagnosis through the healthcare system for timely screening, diagnosis, treatment and increased supportive care across the continuum.
WhatWe’re Looking For
- Education:
Graduated from a nursing school with a BSN required. - Licensure/Certification:
Current licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Ohio. Oncology nursing certification (OCN) preferred. - Experience:
Minimum of three years recent and relevant oncology clinical experience. - Effective communication skills.
- Ability to plan, organize and manage patient care.
- Effective verbal, written and interpersonal skills, including compassion and sensitivity to highly emotional issues.
- Effective in public speaking and establishing a positive public presence.
- Highly motivated with strong leadership skills and teaching abilities.
- Experience in program development preferred.
- Ability to holistically assess problematic situations and initiate a plan of action in all environments, regardless of support systems.
- Ability to work and function independently in a variety of settings.
- Knowledge of internal and external resources/services that provide assistance to the identified population.
- Exhibits each of the Mount Carmel Service Excellence Behavior Standards, holding self and others accountable and role‑modeling excellence for all to see.
- Meets population‑specific and all other competencies according to department requirements.
- Promotes a Culture of Safety by adhering to policy, procedures and plans that prevent workplace injury, violence or adverse outcomes to associates and patients.
