RNFA call stay

Job Description Summary

Full time, day shift with a rotating day off. Required call stay. The RNFA will work under the direction and direct supervision of the surgeon. The RNFA, having acquired the necessary knowledge, judgment and skills specific to the role of RNFA, works in collaboration with the surgeon and other healthcare team members to achieve optimal patient outcomes.

• 15% Preoperative patient management – in collaboration with the healthcare team, the RNFA performs nursing assessments and preoperative evaluations, and communicates the plan of care.
• 15% Postoperative patient management – participates in postoperative rounds and discharge planning with the healthcare team.
• 70% Intraoperative performance – under the direction or direct supervision of the surgeon: assists with closure of body planes, wounds, subcutaneous layers, skin closures; injects local anesthetic; desiccates tissue; provides hemostasis; places laparoscopic trocars; coordinates camera or changes out robotic arms and instruments during endoscopic surgery; provides exposure for the surgeon and visualization of the operative site; activates cautery and operates the electrosurgical unit;
  
  performs specialized tissue handling, dissection, or cutting techniques; performs trocar placement, prepares allografts, and harvests saphenous veins.

• Cannot be the sole provider in the room during the surgical timeout.
• Cannot perform the initial incision.
• Cannot mark the surgical site.
• Cannot independently write orders.
• Cannot be involved in any other role or function during the surgical procedure exchange or circulator.

• Associate’s Degree (Required)
• CNOR – Certified Nurse Operating Room – Competency & Credentialing Institute (CCI), RNFA – Registered Nurse First Assist – Competency and Credentialing Institute
• Registered Nurse (RN) – Ohio Board of Nursing
• Renowned 2+ years as operating room nurse in both circulator and scrub roles
• Must commit to call‑stay shifts.

Knowledge of surgical anatomy, physiology and operative techniques related to the procedures in which the RNFA will serve as first assistant.

Day scheduled. Weekly hours 40.
