Position OverviewAlthough no CDL is required to operate this vehicle, the truck you will drive has the capacity of approximately 35 (or more) tons, which you will use to transport materials. You may also operate heavy equipment, including a crusher, under the direction of a supervisor.
Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)- Ability to detect safety hazards and equipment malfunctions and respond accordingly.
- Ability to maintain and safely and efficiently operate heavy equipment, including Haul Tuck, Water Truck, Dump Truck, Dredge, Track Hoe, Frontend Loader, and Skid Steer Loader.
- Ability to understand and follow directions.
- Ability to weld and fabricate as needed.
- Assist with miscellaneous duties including but not limited to: general labor, shoveling, performing necessary equipment maintenance, assisting foreperson and/or crew members as needed as requested by the Plant Manager/Superintendent/Foreperson.
- Assist with equipment maintenance as needed.
- Continually drive the truck within the confines of the facility.
- Maintain awareness of OSHA and/or MSHA regulations.
- Perform a pre-trip inspection of vehicle condition daily and inform foreperson of any problems before beginning work.
- Work as a team member with other employees within the facility to ensure a smooth and safe operation.
- You may be required to ensure that the crusher is fed consistently while maintaining all safety regulations (at quarry locations).
- Display a professional and courteous attitude to co-workers, supervisors, and the general public at all times.
- Must be willing to travel and work away from home when required.
- Must be willing to work nights and weekends when necessary.
- Report to the assigned job site ready to begin work at the designated start time.
- Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures as outlined in the Manual of Safety Practices and Procedures.
- Strict adherence to Shelly Company policies and procedures as outlined in the Company Book of Policies.
- Willingness to work in a team environment and assist co-workers or supervisors with other duties as required.
- Timely and regular attendance is an expectation of performance for all Shelly Company employees. Employees will be held accountable for adhering to their workplace schedule.
To execute this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
Education and ExperienceLess than or equal to a high school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Prior Heavy Equipment experience, including Crushing Operation helpful.
Personal Protective EquipmentIndividuals are required to wear personal protective equipment in designated operations and production areas as stated by OSHA and/or MSHA. Protective equipment that may be required, but not limited to, for this position:
Welding Gloves, Hard Hat, Hearing Protection, Padlocks for Lockout/Tagout, Safety (hard toe) Shoes, use of Seatbelt and harnesses when required.
Ability to communicate sufficiently to convey and exchange ideas and give and receive detailed verbal instructions.
Reasoning AbilityAbility to apply commonsense understanding to carry out simple one- or two-step instructions. Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional variables.
Physical RequirementsThe employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls, reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to sit, climb, or balance. Specific vision abilities required by this job include distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
The employee must regularly lift and/or move around 25 pounds and may also have to move over 50 pounds with equipment assistance.
