Position OverviewAlthough NO CDL is required to operate this vehicle, the truck you will drive has a capacity of approximately 35 (or more) tons, which you will use to transport materials. You may also operate heavy equipment, including a crusher, under the direction of a supervisor.
Key Responsibilities- Detect safety hazards and equipment malfunctions and respond accordingly.
- Maintain and safely and efficiently operate heavy equipment, including Haul Tuck, Water Truck, Dump Truck, Dredge, Track Hoe, Frontend Loader, and Skid Steer Loader.
- Understand and follow directions.
- Weld and fabricate as needed.
- Assist with miscellaneous duties such as general labor, shoveling, performing necessary equipment maintenance, and assisting foreperson and/or crew members as requested by the Plant Manager, Superintendent, or Foreperson.
- Assist with equipment maintenance as needed.
- Drive the truck continually within the confines of the facility.
- Maintain awareness of OSHA (Occupational Safety & Health Administration) and/or MSHA (Mining Safety & Health Administration) regulations.
- Perform a pre‑trip inspection of vehicle condition daily and inform foreperson of any problems before beginning work.
- Work as a team member with other employees within the facility to ensure a smooth and safe operation.
- Ensure that the crusher is fed consistently while maintaining all safety regulations at quarry locations.
- Display a professional and courteous attitude to co‑workers, supervisors, and the general public at all times.
- Be willing to travel and work away from home when required.
- Be willing to work nights and weekends when necessary.
- Report to the assigned job site ready to begin work at the designated start time.
- Strictly adhere to safety requirements and procedures as outlined in the Manual of Safety Practices and Procedures.
- Strictly adhere to Shelly Company policies and procedures as outlined in the Company Book of Policies.
- Demonstrate willingness to work in a team environment and assist co‑workers or supervisors with other duties as required.
- Maintain timely and regular attendance as expected of all Shelly Company employees; attend to the workplace schedule.
To execute this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
Education and Experience: Less than or equal to a high school diploma or GED; or one to three months of related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Prior heavy equipment experience, including crushing operations, is helpful.
Personal Protective Equipment: Individuals are required to wear personal protective equipment in designated operations and production areas as stated by OSHA and/or MSHA. Required equipment may include welding gloves, hard hat, hearing protection, padlocks for lockout/tagout, safety shoes, seatbelt, and harnesses when required.
Language Skills: Ability to communicate sufficiently to convey and exchange ideas and to give and receive detailed verbal instructions.
Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out simple one‑ or two‑step instructions and to deal with standardized situations with only occasional variables.
Physical RequirementsThe employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. While performing the duties, the employee regularly must stand, walk, use hands to handle objects or controls, reach with hands and arms, talk or hear, sit, climb, or balance. Specific vision abilities required include distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception. The employee must regularly lift and/or move around 25 pounds and may have to move over 50 pounds with equipment assistance.
