Monday–Friday | 6:00 AM–2:30 PM + On-Call Rotation

This position supports daily operations across multiple water and wastewater treatment facilities. It’s a hands-on leadership role for operators who know process control, take compliance seriously, and want long-term growth in the utility field.
Role OverviewThe Water/Wastewater Lead Operator participates in daily operations and maintenance at multiple drinking water and wastewater treatment facilities. This role supports process control, compliance, staff oversight, and plant performance, stepping in as operational lead when senior leadership is not onsite.
What You’ll Be Doing- Monitor water and wastewater treatment processes manually and through SCADA systems
- Adjust treatment processes to maintain regulatory compliance
- Perform water quality sampling, testing, and analysis
- Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot plant equipment and auxiliary systems
- Perform preventive and routine maintenance activities
- Complete daily operational checks across multiple facilities
- Maintain plant logs, records, and regulatory documentation
- Review trends, reports, and operational data for compliance
- Lead and train operators and maintenance staff
- Provide guidance on improving efficiency and plant performance
- Identify and correct process deviations or irregularities
- Test and adjust pH, chlorine residuals, solids, flows, and related parameters
- Coordinate with maintenance staff on projects and repairs
- Monitor emergency generators and backup systems
- Assist contractors, consultants, and regulatory inspectors as needed
- Support development and updates to standard operating procedures
- Ensure compliance with all federal, state, county, and local regulations
- Work safely around high voltage equipment, rotating machinery, and chemicals
- Monday through Friday, 6:00 AM–2:30 PM
- Flexibility required for seasonal demand and extended shifts
- On-call rotation required for evenings, weekends, and holidays
- On-call incentive of $200 per on-call week
- Minimum two hours paid per call-out
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Valid Florida driver’s license required
- Active Florida Class C Drinking Water and Wastewater Operator license required
- Three to five years of progressive wastewater or water treatment operations experience
- Prior lead or supervisory experience preferred
- Strong process control and decision-making skills
- Ability to follow safety procedures and operating protocols
- Comfortable working in plant environments and outdoor conditions
- Ability to pass background check, physical, and drug screening
Pay range: $32–$36 per hour
