RN - Nurse Lead Step Down Unit, Part Time, Day Shift

Overview

Nestled on the Central California Coast, Adventist Health Sierra Vista has provided care to our community since 1959. Our 162‑bed acute care facility includes a Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and a county‑designated trauma center.

• Supervise and direct the activities of various levels of assigned nursing and ancillary personnel using professional discretion and independent judgment.
• Ensure all patients on the unit receive cost‑effective, professional care that results in positive outcomes and high patient satisfaction while maintaining the highest level of patient safety.
• Assess and take steps to improve quality of patient experience.
• Provide unit‑based leadership in the development and provision of clinical services.
• Initiate and coordinate individual and team conferences with health‑team members, patients, and/or families to revise care plans for optimal, individualized patient care.
• Direct and monitor personnel in the performance of patient‑care activities to ensure adequate care and quality of work.
• Participate in patient care as needed.
• Foster an environment of patient and family‑centered care with special attention to cultural diversity and personal needs.
• Make rounds to assess patient‑care needs and introduce oneself to patients and families.
• Solicit feedback on quality of nursing services and other concerns.
• Provide interventions and/or develop systems to address patient care throughout the continuum of care.
• Develop strategies with the Nurse Manager/Director to improve customer satisfaction for patients, families, and physicians.
• Investigate and resolve patient‑care and operational issues as needed.
• Recommend policy/procedure changes based on standards, in collaboration with the Nurse Manager/Director.
• Ensure compliance with Patient Safety Goals identified by The Joint Commission, hospital policy, quality measures, and patient‑safety initiatives.
• Work closely with clinical team members to implement systems/programs or staff‑development activities to facilitate staff members’ ability to meet patient/family/physician needs.
• Provide ongoing assessment of department operations and patient‑care processes for opportunities to improve.
• Facilitate data collection by staff and participate in unit quality activities.
• Assess staffing requirements and assign staff to patients and activities.
• Support evaluation of unit‑employee performance; involve in hiring and termination decisions.
• Work with facility services to ensure department and equipment are safe and operational; facilitate repairs of equipment.
• Keep the Director informed of unit activities, incidents, and special needs, and document pertinent information.
• Keep staffing costs within the targeted budget while minimizing overtime.

• Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing or equivalent combination of education and related experience.
• Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in the state of practice.
• Clinical specialty and/or nursing administration certification.
• Strong supervisory and professional judgment.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to interpret and comply with Patient Safety Goals, joint‑commission standards, and hospital policies.
• Ability to manage staffing, budget, and equipment maintenance.
