The City of Grovetown is currently accepting applicants for a Program Assistant in our General Services Department. This position pays $18.77 per hour. All full‑time employees are eligible for 100% paid medical insurance, dental coverage, life insurance, short‑term disability, and paid retirement. This position will primarily be performed at the Grovetown Depot and Grovetown Museum, and will include work on weekends, evenings, and some holidays.

Job Summary

The purpose of this position is to provide clerical and program assistance to the General Services Director and the Events Coordinator with activities in the operation of Liberty Park, the gymnasium, Depot, Museum, and all other General Services venues. This position will participate in daily programming, perform routine data entry and record‑keeping duties, prepare reports, assist with basic clerical tasks, collect and process money, staff the museum, perform housekeeping duties, and assist in the planning, production, and execution of special events as well as other tasks.

Responsibilities
  • Assist the General Services Director and Events Coordinator with daily relevant activities that take place in the General Services Department
  • Create, update, and maintain reports and records for accepting deposits and rental payments
  • Transfer records and collections to City offices (or designated locations) on a daily basis
  • Ensure all areas of Liberty Park, the gymnasium, Depot, Museum, and all other General Services venues are clean and well maintained as assigned
  • Perform housekeeping/cleaning duties daily and during/after events
  • Properly report any damage, disarray, or needed repairs according to guidelines and instructions
  • Track usage of supplies and maintain appropriate inventory
  • Coordinate reservations for activities at Liberty Park, the gymnasium, Depot, Museum, and all other General Services venues
  • Assist with special events, set‑up/breakdown tables, chairs, and other event equipment for City events and functions
  • Accept deposits and rental payments
  • Staff Museum, Depot, gymnasium, and other General Services venues as assigned or required
  • Rotate displays at the Museum, Depot, and other General Services venues
  • Communicate general information to the public
  • Provide tours as needed and required
  • Render customer service as needed
  • Assist the Event Coordinator as needed or required
  • Perform other duties as assigned or required of the program
  • Work alternate work schedules to accommodate events, rentals, and other coverage at various venues
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of City geography including City maps, streets, and locations
  • Strong customer service, interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
  • Good teamwork, ethics, and punctuality
  • Planning and organizing skills
  • Data entry using City computers and software/programs
  • Report preparation and data collection
  • Cash donation accounting
  • Courteous and tactful interaction with program participants, employees, and the public
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, officials, contractors, vendors, and the public
  • Fluent and proficient English communication (read, write, speak)
  • Ability to obtain and maintain CPR/Basic First Aid/AED certification
Requirements
  • Valid state driver’s license
  • Pass CPR/Basic First Aid/AED class and maintain certifications
  • At least one year’s experience working in a public setting; a combination of certifications, training, and experience may be accepted
  • High school diploma from a nationally accredited organization accepted by the U.S. Department of Education
  • Minimum age 18 years
  • Subject to a pre‑employment background check and drug screen; subject to random drug screens
  • Must be bondable
  • Follow all policies, rules, and regulations of the City
