Work Shift
AEMT-Columbia CountyAssists RN and physician staff to provide care to patients in the Emergency Department. The EMT provides basic nursing care to patients; measures, reports, and records vital signs to include height and weight;
Applies compresses and dressings; performs 12 lead EKGs, IV therapy, oropharyngeal suctions, suture removals, and indwelling catheters. Transports stable patients safely by stretcher or wheelchair. Charts procedures. Assists the nurse with triage duties, collects laboratory specimens, administers oxygen and applies cardiac monitor leads. Performs ear irrigations, eye patches, fitting of crutches, slings and ace wraps and splints. The position is also used as a patient flow coordinator (Lead) and helps ensure patients are getting to open rooms and EMS traffic is directed appropriately.
Essential Functions:
- Provides basic nursing care (within scope of practice) related to adult, geriatric, and pediatric populations; measures, reports, and records vital signs to include height and weight; applies compresses and dressings; performs 12 lead EKGs, IV therapy, oropharyngeal suctions, suture removals, indwelling catheters, transports stable patients safely by stretcher or wheelchair and charts procedures.
- Assist with triage and rapid treatment area duties (within the scope of practice for hospital), collect lab specimens/IV placement, transport patients, chart procedures.
- Serve as Lead Patient Flow Coordinator (Lead) to help ensure the patient is getting to open rooms and EMS traffic is directed appropriately.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Complies with all Wellstar Health System policies, standards of work, and code of conduct.
- High School Diploma General or GED General
All certifications are required upon hire unless otherwise stated.
- BLS - Basic Life Support or ARC-BLS - Amer Red Cross Basic Life Support or BLS-I - Basic Life Support - Instructor
- EMT-BASIC - EMT-BASIC or EMT-INT - EMT-Intermediate or EMT-ADV - EMT-Advanced or NREMT - NREMT or PARA - Paramedic
Minimum Experience:
Experience as an EMT Preferred
