Light Equipment Operator - Leisure and Recreation Dept.The City of Grovetown is currently accepting applicants for a Light Equipment Operator in our Leisure and Recreation Department. This position pays $18.06 per hour. All full-time employees are eligible for 100% paid medical insurance, dental coverage, life insurance, short term disability, and paid retirement.
Job SummaryThe purpose of this position is to perform daily tasks associated with the cleaning and maintenance of parks, buildings, and beautification of designated rights-of-way, clearing trash and debris, operating small engine equipment, power tools, and light trucks, and performing heavy physical labor under adverse conditions. This position requires training and experience normally associated with 6-12 months in a similar position.
Duties- Works as a member of the Leisure and Recreation crew
- Picks up heavy trash and cleans areas
- Cuts grass, bushes, and clears undergrowth as needed
- Cleans ballfield areas and performs needed maintenance
- Operates lights (on/off) as needed in lighted recreation areas
- Sets up tents, chairs, and other equipment as needed for special events
- Lines ball fields as needed
- Packs supplies needed at job site(s)
- Reacts to storms and other emergencies and assists other departments as needed
- Beautifies areas of the City by planting flowers and shrubs as well as installing and/or removing decorations
- Takes corrective action on missing and/or damaged signs
- Properly uses safety equipment and materials as required
- Keeps equipment and vehicles in good operating order
- Performs routine and special inspections of all equipment and vehicles according to OSHA and other guidelines
- Properly reports issues, damage, etc. through the proper process and to the proper parties
- Participates in preparation work for special events of the City
- Performs other duties as assigned or required of the program
- Knowledge of City geography including City maps/streets/locations
- Knowledge of appropriate materials used in daily operation of the department
- Knowledge of City policies and procedures related to operation of the department
- Skills in operating small engine equipment such as lawn mowers, weed eaters, edgers, and other landscape maintenance and installation machinery and equipment
- Skills in safe operation and driving of light and heavy trucks as well as other equipment and vehicles the City may acquire
- Skills in maintaining large and small equipment
- Skills in using hand tools and power tools, such as chainsaws, pole saws, and other similar power tools
- Skills in performing basic safety regulations
- Skills in proactively noticing safety hazards in parks and recreation areas and correcting any problem(s) noted
- Ability to be cross-trained to perform other related duties
- Ability to perform manual labor for extended periods of time
- Ability to train other employees
- Ability to understand oral and written instructions
- Ability to read, write, speak, and communicate in the English language fluently and proficiently
- Abilities and skills to deal courteously and tactfully with fellow employees and the general public
- Abilities and skills to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, officials, contractors, vendors, and the general public
Incumbent follows established rules, guidelines, and policies and may make suggestions for updates or changes. Incumbent must have the ability to understand the scope, functions, and job duties with minimal instruction. The job is complex due to the number of areas to be cleaned and serviced each week.
ContactsContacts are generally with City employees and members of the general public. The purpose of these contacts is to render services and to provide or exchange information to the general public.
GuidelinesGuidelines of the program are clear and specific and may require minimal interpretation. Grant guidelines are clear and specific. Incumbent receives instructions from work orders and verbal and/or written commands from the supervisor and/or the Director.
Physical DemandsThis position requires frequent lifting of items weighing more than 50 pounds, bending, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing. Incumbent must be in good physical condition and possess a high degree of manual dexterity. Incumbent must be able to tolerate long periods of time working in extreme heat or cold and other adverse weather conditions.
Supervisory ControlsThis position works under the direct supervision of the Facilities Manager/Supervisor and receives training from the same. Work is somewhat routine and work details are explained at the beginning of the work assignment. The supervisor would monitor work performance during and after work assignment(s).
