Job Summary

The assistant nurse manager is a registered professional nurse who supports and works in conjunction with the nurse manager of a specific unit(s) or service. This individual is expected to be an aspiring nurse manager, learning additional knowledge and skills through experience and mentoring by the nurse manager and the hospital/system. The assistant nurse manager must possess strong communication and teamwork skills, serve as a mentor for others, and actively lead staff in their daily activities, participation in performance reviews, coaching, and counseling.

They help hold staff accountable for delivery of care, manage human/material resources, assist in staff recruitment, mentoring and retention, and collaborate with physicians, staff, patients, and other departments to promote a center of excellence for staff recruitment and clinical and financial outcomes. All RN Assistant Nurse Managers must be licensed and uphold the Georgia Professional Nurse Practice Act, the Scope of Practice and Code of Ethics Standards of the American Nurses Association.
