Job SummaryAn Electrical Apprentice works under the direction of a licensed Journeyperson, laying out, inspecting, assembling, installing, repairing, and maintaining electrical fixtures, apparatus, control equipment, and wiring for industrial electrical systems and equipment such as motors, generators, wiring systems, lighting systems, and motor drives. They follow electrical code, manuals, schematic diagrams, blueprints, and specifications while using hand tools, power tools, and electrical test equipment.
Responsibilities- Work closely with Journeyperson and maintenance personnel to gain required knowledge and skills.
- Troubleshoot malfunctioning machinery and equipment.
- Replace faulty electrical components such as relays, switches, motors, and position‑sensing devices.
- Read and interpret drawings and electrical code specifications to determine layout of industrial electrical equipment installations.
- Install power‑supply wiring and conduit for newly installed machines and equipment.
- Connect power‑supply wires to machines and equipment and connect cables and wires between machines and equipment, following manuals, schematic diagrams, and blueprints, using hand tools and test equipment.
- Install, diagnose, examine, replace, or repair electrical wiring, receptacles, switch boxes, conduits, feeders, cable assemblies, lighting fixtures, and other electrical components using hand tools.
- Test electrical and electronic equipment and components for continuity, current, voltage, and resistance.
- Maintain, repair, test and install electrical motors, generators, industrial storage batteries, and hydraulic and pneumatic electrical control systems.
- Participate in preventative maintenance programs and inspect equipment as per policy requirements.
- Registered electrical apprentice, third year or higher preferred.
- Working knowledge of pneumatics, hydraulics, and electronics.
- Five years’ experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Ability to work independently and within a team‑based environment.
- Multitasking skills and capacity to handle a rapidly changing work environment.
- Well organized and able to work under direct supervision.
