A Sprinkler Service Fitter is a team oriented individual responsible for the installation, service, inspections, repairs, and preventative maintenance of various fire protection systems, including but not limited to wet, dry, pre-action, and suppression systems, as well as fire pumps and backflow devices. The Sprinkler Service fitter will participate in necessary training to remain updated with most recent codes and expand their knowledge.
(Ex: Fire Pump 1-2-3, Backflow, inspection & testing, Etc. Training/Courses)
Inspections
- Inspect various fire protection systems throughout different facilities as per NFPA-25 and local codes/regulations to ensure they are operating as design, free of damage/leaks/obstructions and ensure they provide adequate protection for the hazard level.
- Provide a detailed description of deficiencies found with full solutions and material lists, using the provided reporting software.
- Testing of these systems requires a comprehensive knowledge of how they operate and the purpose and function of all system components. Inspectors should be well versed in troubleshooting issues while on site to ensure the proper repairs are suggested and issues that come up during testing are quickly and properly resolved to limit downtime.
- Navigating on-site issues and managing their time efficiently while ensuring a thorough inspection.
- A strong understanding of the relevant fire codes is necessary to ensure the inspections are being completed as required by customers, their insurance providers and the AHJ.
- A service fitter should be comfortable servicing, maintaining, and repairing all aspects of fire protection equipment/system.
- Relocating and adding sprinkler heads
- Repairing or modifying sprinkler systems
- Repairing or replacing sprinkler system components
- Completing internal alarm valve and pipe assessments
- Completing Hydrostatic testing of Fire Department Connections
- Completing Air leakage testing of dry/preaction systems
- Troubleshooting various sprinkler system issues and providing thorough solutions with material as needed.
- Sprinkler Fitters can attend a wide range of service calls where it may be necessary to address/diagnose issues with varying components of the system.
- Identify and provide effective solutions and complete the repairs in a timely manner.
- Communicate with customers effectively and ensure the customer is receiving valuable quality service.
- Be part of an on-call rotation for their designated after-hours time frame. While on call, the fitter is responsible for responding to after hours service calls for their specific region and independently providing the necessary solutions required for various situations.
- Install sprinkler components as per NFPA-13, Local regulations, and AHJ
- Ensure that the work is performed safely and in accordance with CFLS’s safe work procedures as well as site specific safety regulations.
- Create Weekly Progress Report with construction supervisor and submit weekly
- Ensure timely submission of installation crew’s weekly time sheets (1st workday of workweek)
- Establish contact with customer’s site personnel (general contractor, trades, vendors, etc.).
