Brooks Ecological

Ecologist with Strong Ornithological focus

Location:

Guiseley or Warrington (Hybrid)

Employment Type:

Full-time, Permanent

Salary:
Based on Experience (Up to £35,000)

Brooks Ecological, an Origin Enterprises company, is an ecology-led consultancy with a diverse portfolio of projects, ranging from large-scale habitat restoration and management schemes to strategic urban extensions and smaller private initiatives.

As a friendly, ethical company, we are selective about the projects we undertake. We pride ourselves on sustainability, operating a fleet of fully electric pool cars powered by renewable energy sources.

With clients ranging from local authorities, house builders, schools, charities and householders, we offer an exciting variety of projects and the chance to be part of a growing, collaborative team.

We currently have an exciting opportunity for an Ornithologist to work on a broad variety of projects.

Responsibilities
  • Undertake ornithological surveys and data collection for a range of projects, including renewable energy and commercial developments.
  • Support the preparation of technical reports and ecological assessments under supervision.
  • Liaise with colleagues and occasionally with clients or stakeholders to provide accurate information.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant ecological legislation and guidance.
  • Undertaking other survey types as appropriate to your skill set and career goals.
Key Requirements
  • Strong knowledge of UK bird species, ecology and distribution, with strong UK bird identification by sight and sound.
  • Experience in field ornithology and survey techniques, including Vantage Points, breeding bird surveys, wintering bird surveys, and species-specific surveys.
  • Ability to produce clear and accurate data records and contribute to technical reports, including use of mapping software.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.
  • Relevant degree in ecology or related discipline.
  • Full clean driving license.
  • CIEEM membership desirable.

You will be a flexible, diligent and pro‑active person who is motivated to work either alone or as part of a team to consistently high standards. Whilst some site visits and occasional participation in field surveys will be required, this is not a field role. Consultancy experience is required for this role. Candidates will have a relevant degree and preferably be a CIEEM member, as well as a full clean drivers’ license.
