This role requires a dynamic educator capable of teaching various historical disciplines (e.g., Mississippi Studies, U.S. History, World History) depending on the specific assignment.
Key Responsibilities 1. Instructional Planning & Delivery- Curriculum Alignment: Design and implement rigorous lesson plans aligned with the Mississippi College-and Career-Readiness Standards for Social Studies.
- Engagement: Utilize a variety of instructional strategies (lectures, primary source analysis, project-based learning, and technology integration) to accommodate diverse learning styles.
- differentiation: Modify instruction and materials to meet the needs of students with IEPs, 504 plans, and English Learners.
- State Testing Prep: Prepare students effectively for the Mississippi Academic Assessment Program (MAAP) in U.S. History (if teaching high school level).
- Establish and maintain a safe, respectful, and inclusive classroom environment conducive to learning.
- Manage student behavior in accordance with the district's Student Code of Conduct and Mississippi state regulations.
- Promote a culture of civic engagement and historical inquiry.
- Create and administer formative and summative assessments to monitor student progress.
- Analyze student data to inform future instruction and provide timely, constructive feedback to students and parents.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of attendance and grades using the district's Student Information System (e.g., SAMs, Power School).
- Collaborate with the Social Studies department and grade-level teams to ensure vertical and horizontal alignment.
- Communicate regularly with parents/guardians regarding student progress and behavior.
- Participate in faculty meetings, professional development days (PD), and Professional Learning Communities (PLCs).
- Uphold the Mississippi Educator Code of Ethics.
- Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university is required.
- Valid Mississippi Educator License with appropriate endorsements. Common endorsements include:
- 192 (Social Studies 7-12)
- 101 (History)
- Passing scores on the Praxis II:
Social Studies Content Knowledge (or specific subject area) exam. - Strong knowledge of U.S., World, and Mississippi History.
- Proficiency with educational technology (Google Classroom, Canvas, Promethean Boards).
- Ability to interpret data to drive instruction.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Successful completion of a criminal background check and fingerprinting (as required by Mississippi law).
