This teacher will be responsible for teaching the Mississippi College-and Career-Readiness Standards (MS CCRS) for Science
, managing a safe laboratory environment, and preparing students for state assessments.
- Curriculum Implementation: Design lesson plans aligned with the 2018 Mississippi College-and Career-Readiness Standards for Science.
- Inquiry-Based Learning: Utilize the "Three-Dimensional Learning" model (Disciplinary Core Ideas, Science and Engineering Practices, and Crosscutting Concepts).
- STEM Integration: incorporate technology, mathematics, and engineering principles into daily lessons to solve real-world problems.
- State Testing Prep: Effectively prepare students for the Mississippi Academic Assessment Program (MAAP) in Science (specifically for Grade 5, Grade 8, or High School Biology I).
- Safety Compliance: Strictly enforce laboratory safety protocols in accordance with district policy and NSTA (National Science Teaching Association) guidelines.
- Lab Organization: Maintain inventory of chemicals, equipment, and specimens, ensuring proper storage and disposal of hazardous materials.
- Hands-on Instruction: Facilitate regular laboratory experiments and demonstrations that allow students to apply theoretical concepts.
- Progress Monitoring: Use formative assessments (labs, exit tickets, quizzes) and summative assessments to gauge student mastery.
- Data-Driven Decisions: Analyze MAAP data and benchmark scores to identify learning gaps and adjust instruction for remediation or enrichment.
- Feedback: Provide detailed feedback on lab reports and projects to improve scientific writing and analytical skills.
- Collaboration: Work with the science department to ensure vertical alignment of scientific skills from middle to high school.
- Parent Engagement: Communicate regularly with parents regarding student success and safety behavior in the lab.
- Code of Ethics: Uphold the Mississippi Educator Code of Ethics and professional standards.
- Bachelor's Degree in Education, Science, or a related field (Biology, Chemistry, Physics, etc.) from an accredited institution.
- Valid Mississippi Educator License with appropriate endorsements. Common endorsements include:
- 181 (Biology Education)
- 182 (Chemistry)
- 188 (General Science 7-12)
- 189 (Physics)
- 904 (Science 7-8) - Middle School specific
- Passing scores on the Praxis II:
Subject Assessment for the specific science discipline. - Deep understanding of the Scientific Method and Lab Safety procedures.
- Ability to break down complex scientific concepts for diverse learners.
- Proficiency with educational technology (virtual labs, simulations, digital microscopes).
- Classroom management skills specifically adapted for a laboratory setting.
- Successful completion of a criminal background check and fingerprinting.
