Position

Description:

This position is with the Specialized Treatment Facility, a Mississippi Department of Mental Health Program, which is located in Gulfport MS. Specialized Treatment Facility, a Psychiatric Residential Treatment Facility, provides mental health treatment, substance use/abuse treatment, as well as education to adolescents ages 12-18. Teachers in this classification are responsible for instructing students in one or more subjects, such as English, Social Studies, Math, Science, or other academic courses depending on subject area certification and assignment.

The teacher in this position will provide Science instruction for adolescents residing at STF and attending its MDE accredited non-public school. The work involves preparing teaching outlines for course or courses of study, assigning lessons, administering tests, and evaluating reports. Teachers work under the supervision of an administrative superior, and supervision is frequently exercised over support care professionals helping in the classrooms.

Employees may be accountable for accommodating IEPs for individuals with special needs. Employees are also accountable for preparing reports based on resident attendance, performance, progress, and skills assimilation.
EDUCATIONAL/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Requires a relevant Bachelor’s Degree and a valid Mississippi Class A teaching certification with endorsements in MILD/MOD DISABILITIES (K-12) and SCIENCE (7-12) as required by the State Department of Education. Applicants must agree upon attaining said endorsements if hired if they do not already have one or more of said endorsements. A signed agreement will be made if offered a position with the stipulation that the applicant will attain endorsements within twelve months of employment.
