Mechanical Engineer - NSS- STENNIS
Chugach Government Solutions, LLC (through Nova Space Solutions, LLC — a joint venture between Wolf Creek Federal Services, Inc. and Amentum Technology, Inc.) announced a Mechanical Engineer position located at NASA John
C. Stennis Space Center. The role is part of the Engineering Services Department and will assist in the design, analysis, and modification of site‑wide infrastructure, utilities, technical systems, facilities, or special test equipment.
The candidate will work onsite/in‑office and will be responsible for the entire design cycle of fluid subsystems, including conceptual design, thermo‑fluid modeling, structural layout and analysis, integration, commissioning, and activation.
Key Responsibilities- Develop mechanical designs for construction of new or modification of existing facilities.
- Design site‑wide utilities, process piping, and HVAC systems.
- Prepare plans, models, and drawings using design software.
- Perform mechanical design calculations and analyses.
- Develop heat load analysis models, flow models, and pressure calculations.
- Design fluid and gas subsystems including detailed fabrication and assembly drawings.
- Specify, procure, and process fluid component groups (e.g., solenoid valves, regulators, pressure vessels).
- Conduct trade studies, market research, life‑cycle cost assessments, and feasibility studies.
- Plan projects, schedule, estimate cost, and take off materials.
- Monitor and report weekly on design project status, schedule, and actual cost.
- Support site sustainability initiatives and energy goals.
- Assist other departments with engineering support as needed.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET‑accredited university.
- 0‑8 years of experience in aerospace, industrial, commercial, or government engineering.
- Familiarity with design of fluid, gas systems, and components.
- Knowledge of piping, valves, regulators, fittings, fabrication, integration, and quality control.
- Understanding of materials and treatments.
- FE designation or PE licensure, or desire to obtain within 1‑4 years.
- Knowledge of industry standards: ASME B31.3, ASHRAE 90.1, International Building Code, IBP, NFPA, LEED, etc.
- U.S. Citizen status and ability to provide required documents for NASA badge.
- Strong written and verbal English communication skills.
- Valid Real r’s license.
- Pass pre‑employment background and drug screen.
- Prior knowledge of NASA sites and government installations.
- Experience with Creo Parametric, PTC Windchill, FLUENT, ANSYS, Flowmaster, Math Cad, HAP, Autopipe, CAD, or Winplot.
- Programming knowledge (Visual BASIC, FORTRAN, C, etc.) is a plus.
- Experience with process piping standards (ASME B31.3).
- Strong organizational, planning, and communication skills.
- Knowledge of environmental and sustainability best practices.
- Ability to work independently and interface with diverse teams.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Teams, PowerPoint).
