Description Summary

The CMT Technician II is a more experienced technician having achieved at least one testing certification. This technician can perform some of the more complicated field tests and is mentored by CMT Technician III personnel. The CMT Technician II has a minimum of 12 months of experience in construction engineering technology or an equivalent and has earned his/her accreditation as a Concrete Field Testing Technician (Grade I) with the American Concrete Institute.

This CMT Technician inspects materials and observes activities associated with construction of streets, bridges, buildings, levees, etc., to ensure the procedures and materials comply with plans and specifications by performing the following duties.

The CMT Technician II works under the direction of the CMT Operations Supervisor.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Other duties may be assigned including working in our drilling department or soils laboratory, or working for Eustis Engineering’s other offices.

The CMT Technician II must:

  • have developed discernment capabilities through knowledge and experience;
  • be able to communicate problematic situations concerning both workmanship and/or materials directly to the professional in charge;
  • be familiar with industry standards such as ASTM, ACI, AASHTO, AWS, AISC, FAA, ICC, LaDOTD, MDOT, TxDOT, etc., and be able to follow written test procedures;
  • display the level of expertise to perform both laboratory and field tests in two or more disciplines, i.e., asphalt, concrete, coatings, steel, piling, soils, etc.;
  • have the ability to perform duties of various assignments and complete complex reports with minimum supervision and assistance;
  • be able to read and interpret project plans and specifications;
  • must have the ability to perform field inspection and laboratory tests to a high degree of proficiency in more than one area of technology, such as asphalt, soils, concrete, piling, steel, coatings, non‑destructive testing, etc.;
  • should qualify as an expert in one of those disciplines;
  • must perform duties of various assignments and complete complex reports with a minimum of supervision and assistance; uses appropriate personal protective equipment which may include hard hat, safety vest, safety shoes, face shield/covering;
  • maintains a valid driver’s license and drives a motor vehicle while collecting samples, performing field tests, and conducting inspections;
  • communicates orally and in writing with supervisor and staff members.
