Covington Civil and Environmental, Inc. is seeking a Coastal Engineer/Scientist/Numerical Modeler to support our coastal and waterfront practice based in Gulfport, MS. Applicants should have education or experience in coastal processes, numerical modeling, or engineering to support project development for a range of activities. Project types include large-scale restoration, beach nourishment and management, shoreline protection, nature-based solutions, marinas and waterfront infrastructure, and coastal resiliency.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Research, collect, and analyze data to inform coastal engineering projects.
  • Conduct coastal numerical modeling to support project development.
  • Assist in the preparation of calculations, designs, plans, specifications, and related documents.
  • Perform fieldwork including inspections, data collection, construction observations, and surveys.
  • Conduct analyses and visualize data using GIS software.
  • Work regularly with team members, including engineers, designers, scientists, and ecologists, as well as clients, regulatory staff, and other stakeholders.
  • Prepare and present technical content.
  • Commensurate with experience, additional responsibilities may include: support business and proposal development; lead technical tasks and projects; and manage clients and staff.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Professional Skills and Experience
  • Bachelor Degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering, Coastal Engineering or Geology, Oceanography, or related discipline. (Master’s Degree preferred).
  • Experience with coastal numerical models, coding, and GIS software.
  • 2+ years of related work experience.
  • Professional license (e.g., EI, PE, or PG) (preferred).
  • Experience with relevant field work, instrumentation, surveying, and UAS (preferred).
  • Proficient in the Microsoft Office suite of products.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Physical Requirements
  • Some travel and fieldwork in the coastal and marine environment, including boat activities, equipment use and installation, and field measurements.
  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
