An aerospace and defense manufacturer is looking for a Metrology Engineer to join their quality and engineering team in Gulfport, MS.
What you'll do:- Interpret customer drawings and develop program-specific inspection plans for production and experimental manufactured parts
- Independently operate FARO laser tracking and portable arm equipment using Verisurf software to perform inspections
- Produce inspection reports and work with engineers to establish proper disclosures and reportable quality requirements per program contract
- Provide daily feedback and support to engineers and operators on inspection practices and specification interpretation
- Develop and modify 3D models and detailed engineering drawings using CAD software
- Provide feedback on internal and customer drawing reviews to reflect design intent and inspection capabilities
- Collaborate with manufacturing, quality, and project management teams
- Support prototype development, testing, and procedure development
- Maintain accurate documentation, including drawings, revisions, and technical reports
- Identify opportunities for design improvements and cost efficiencies
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field (or equivalent experience)
- Minimum 3 years of metrology experience
- Extensive knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) per ASME Y14.5
- Proficiency with MasterCAM and Verisurf (or Polyworks/equivalent)
- Hands-on experience with FARO or equivalent dimensional inspection equipment
- First article inspection experience is a plus
- Strong understanding of engineering principles, materials, and manufacturing processes
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Experience in defense, aerospace, naval, or manufacturing industries
- Additional CAD software experience (Solid Works, NX, AutoCAD, CATIA, or Inventor)
- Experience with product data management software such as Solid Works PDM
This role occasionally requires lifting up to 50 lbs and working in a manufacturing environment with varying temperatures and noise levels. Candidates must pass a criminal background check and pre-employment drug screen prior to employment.
