Data Analyst, Business Intelligence
The University of Mississippi seeks a Data Analyst I/II to support institutional research by collecting, retrieving, transforming, analyzing, validating, and reporting institutional data. The role contributes to effectiveness and decision-making, prepares internal and external responses, and supports survey and data governance efforts.
Key Responsibilities- Prepare and submit accurate, timely institutional reports for the Mississippi Board of Trustees of Institutions of Higher Learning, the federal government, university administration, and other external agencies.
- Coordinate campus data collection with partners to complete external data requests, reports, and questionnaires.
- Perform statistical analyses across a range of institutional data using tools such as SAS, SPSS, R, and other analytical methods.
- Use SQL, Excel, and Tableau to execute data transformations and other complex operations.
- Maintain datasets and reporting structures used for institutional reporting.
- Serve as a point of contact for internal and external data requests, including time-critical ad-hoc requests.
- Complete questionnaires for outside agencies on behalf of the university.
- Provide historical research information for statistical studies and ad-hoc requests.
- Facilitate the submission and analysis of national surveys for the university.
- Coordinate and participate in assigned special and recurring projects, including planning, development, implementation, and evaluation.
- Respond to data requests from multiple constituents and act as a liaison to academic and non-academic departments as needed.
- Collect, analyze, and manage data from enterprise systems to support reporting, compliance, and operational decision-making.
- Prepare, interpret, and communicate complex statistical information in writing, verbally, and graphically for diverse audiences.
- Support data governance by documenting reporting definitions, identifying data-quality concerns, and working with data owners and subject-matter experts to validate institutional data and promote consistent reporting.
- Handle institutional data in accordance with FERPA and other applicable university policies and regulations.
- Document data definitions, sources, methodologies, validation procedures, and reporting processes used for assigned reports, dashboards, surveys, and data requests.
- Use SQL to query, join, transform, and validate data in a relational database environment, preferably PostgreSQL.
- Combine and validate data from Ellucian Insights/Reporting and Analytics and other institutional sources to support reporting and analysis.
- Bachelor’s degree (required)

- Ability to contribute to improvement of data sources, data visualizations, and use of data by stakeholders
This position is part of Institutional Research, Effectiveness, & Planning and reports directly to the Director of Institutional Research.
