Supervisory Nurse

Responsibilities

• Ensure comprehensive nursing care activities utilizing the nursing process are followed and provide staff supervision and evaluation of nursing care provided during assigned tour of duty.
• Provide professional and administrative direction, guidance, and support in the implementation of the nursing process and programs.
• Act as the clinical resource nurse.
• Participate in formulating, enforcing, and interpreting AFRH and healthcare policies and regulations.

• Must be a U.S. Citizen or U.S. National.
• Subject to the AFRH ethics program standards, U.S. criminal conflict of interest statutes, and AFRH Supplemental Ethics Regulations.
• Must file a public or confidential financial disclosure report within 30 days of appointment and attend mandatory ethics training within 3 months.

• One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS‑09 grade level in the Federal service.
• Overseeing physician/nursing care plans and reviewing quality of nursing care.
• Possession of a diploma, associate’s degree, bachelor’s degree, or master’s degree from a professional nursing educational program.
• Alternatively, successful completion of a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree from a professional nursing educational program or related medical science field.

Applicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination and possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a U.S. state, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a U.S. territory.

A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor’s, associate’s, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. Curriculum must be accredited by an appropriate accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. Applicant must also possess a current BLS certification.

• All newly appointed employees to the competitive (or excepted) service are subject to a probationary period of up to one year, during which performance will be evaluated and temporary status will not be assumed automatically.
• Must successfully complete a background investigation.
• Must pass a drug test prior to appointment and be subject to random testing while employed.
• Must undergo pre‑employment physical examination and personal identity verification (PIV) requirements.
• Selected personnel are subject to the AFRH Tuberculosis Surveillance Program.
• Shift work:
  Position operates 24 h per day on a three‑shift basis; the incumbent must be available for all shifts on a rotational basis.
• Position is essential and requires punctual arrival and completion of duty during adverse conditions.
