DESCRIPTION:
To work primarily with one student with special needs, under the direction of the Instructional/PPS staff, so the student is able to take full advantage of the instructional program.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Certification:
Valid Illinois Professional Educator's, Paraprofessional, or Subtitute License registered in Lake County
2.
Education:
A. Required - High School Diploma or Equivalent and 60 credit hours of college credit
3.
Experience:
A. Preferred - Classroom experience, Spanish-speaking
ESSENTIAL PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Works primarily with an individual student in the delivery of special education services consistent with the IEP
* Assists the Instructional/PPS staff in devising special strategies for introducing or reinforcing material or skills based on an understanding of the individual student, his/her needs, interests, and abilities
* Operates and cares for equipment used in the classroom for instructional purposes: responsible for assisting with equipment and technology as listed on the IEP.
* Helps the student with the completion of instructional assignments after they have been introduced by the Instructional/PPS staff
* Guides independent study, enrichment work, and remedial work set up and assigned by the Instructional/PPS staff
* Assists with the supervision of the student during emergency drills, assemblies, play periods, and field trips
* Checks the student's notebooks, corrects papers, and supervises testing and make-up work, as assigned by the teacher
* Checks and records student attendance as necessary, assists with data collection as necessary and recording of information, etc.
* As necessary, helps the student(s) with daily living skills, clothing, lunch, snack, clean-up routines, wash-up and toileting routines
* Alerts appropriate staff to any problem or special information about the student
* Provides information and helps any substitute teacher(s) assigned in the absence of the regular teacher
* Maintains the same high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students as is expected of certified staff, to include being a mandated reporter
* Participates in inservice training programs, as assigned
* Based on student or school need, may be reassigned for duty for the day(s)
* Inform supervisor of the absence of assigned student for possible reassignment of duties
* Performs such other tasks and assumes such other responsibilities as assigned by the Instructional/PPS staff, principal, supervisor, director or other administrator.

Technical:
Competent in digital environments; iPads, Chromebooks databases, spreadsheets, publishing software, Microsoft Office, Google applications etc.
Interpersonal:
Ability to develop and maintain positive relationships with students, staff, parents, businesses and community. Strong organization, communication and interpersonal skills. Empathetic, humanistic and open-minded. Strong sense of teamwork. Strategic thinker. Must be able to work harmoniously with the community, students, parents, staff, and administration, etc. Must be able to communicate effectively with students, parents and staff. Must exhibit sound judgment in dealing with people.
Must have strong organizational skills.
