Description:
Provide a structured, individualized, science classroom environment to meet the needs of dual language students by consistently practicing differentiated instruction; and ability to implement authentic assessments such as portfolios to evaluate student achievement.
QUALIFICATIONS
* License/Certification:
Required - Illinois Professional Educator License with Science and ESL endorsements (If candidate does not have the ESL endorsement, they must commit to earning it within three (3) years.)
* Education:
Required - Bachelor's Degree
* Experience - Required - Teaching or student teaching experience
* Preferred - Teaching or student teaching experience in a middle school science classroom.
ESSENTIAL PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Has command of the subject matter and effectively implements the Woodland District 50 Curriculum
2. Uses a variety of instructional techniques and differentiates instruction to meet the individual needs and interests of the students
3. Adheres to the guidelines outlined in the Woodland School District 50 Staff Handbook and Collective Bargaining Agreement
4. Contributes and models a positive school climate through the support of the district's Strategic Plan and Positive Behavior Interventions and Support (PBIS) program
5. Presents curriculum and uses a variety of assessment tools that support district and common core state goals, objectives and standards
6. Adapts teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students varying needs and interests
7. Instructs students in the importance and use of eye protection as well as the use, care and safe handling of laboratory equipment and materials
8. Utilizes the Response to Intervention model (RtI) to assist in reviewing data, determining academic needs, setting appropriate academic goals and implementing interventions for students
9. Establishes and maintains standards of pupil conduct in alignment with the Parent/Student Handbook and PBIS in order to provide for a safe, orderly, productive environment
10. Maintains appropriate records of student attendance, projects, and grades
11. Posts grades regularly to district-approved grade book
12. Maintains control of storage and use of school-owned property; keeps equipment in good working condition, is responsible for all equipment as well as manages repair of equipment
13. Uses a variety of avenues to communicate regularly with parents and school personnel regarding students' levels and rates of progress
14. Administers state and local standardized ability and achievement tests and interprets results to determine student strengths and areas of need
15. Attends and participates in daily team meetings and monthly grade level, department and faculty meetings
16 Keeps up to date with developments in subject area, teaching resources and methods and makes relevant changes to instructional plans and activities to meet the needs of all students
17. Performs other such duties and assumes such other responsibilities as may be assigned by the School Principal or Assistant Principal
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
* Planning and Preparation Must be able to demonstrate knowledge of content and pedagogy, students, and resources. Design coherent instruction and select appropriate instructional activities, and has the ability to assess students learning.
* Classroom Environment Creates an environment of respect and report, establishes a culture for learning, manages classroom procedures, manages students behavior, and has the ability to organize physical space.
* Instruction Communicates clearly and accurately, uses questioning and discussion techniques, engages students in learning, provides feedback to students, and demonstrates flexibility and responsiveness.
* Professional Responsibility Reflects on teaching, maintains accurate records, communicates professionally, contributes to the school and district, grows and develops professionally, and shows professionalism.
Technical:
Demonstrated skills in writing, editing and public speaking.
Experience with social media and emerging technologies. Must be able to effectively use photography equipment/software. Competent in digital environments; databases, spreadsheets, publishing software, Microsoft Office, Google applications, etc.
Interpersonal:
