QUALIFICATIONS:
1. License:
Required - Illinois Professional Educator License (Elementary Grades) with either Reading Specialist or Reading Teacher endorsement
2.
Education:
Required - Master's Degree in Reading
3.
Experience:
Required - Minimum of 3 to 5 years successful teaching experience
Preferred - Minimum of 3 to 5 years successful reading teaching experience in an elementary school setting; fluency in Spanish
ESSENTIAL PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Has command of the subject matter and effectively implements the Woodland District 50 curriculum including Response to Intervention (RtI) and Common Core State Standards
2. Uses a variety of instructional techniques and differentiates instruction to meet the individual needs and interests of the students
3. Adheres to the guidelines outlined in the Woodland School District 50 Staff handbook
4. Contributes and models a positive school climate through the support of the district's Strategic Plan and Positive Behavior Intervention and Support (PBIS) program
5. Orders materials and supplies as per district procedures, with appropriate authorization and within budgetary constraints
6. Works cooperatively with other staff members in planning professional development opportunities
7. Collaborates with staff and paraprofessionals to meet the needs of students with special needs
8. Maintains control of storage and use of school-owned property; keeps supplies in good working condition, is responsible for all materials as well as manages repair of equipment
9. Collaborates as needed with appropriate school personnel regarding students who may need specialized interventions
10. Presents curriculum and uses a variety of assessment tools that support district and Common Core State Standards
11. Adapts teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students varying needs and interests
12. Utilizes RtI to assist in reviewing data, determining academic needs, setting appropriate goals and implementing interventions for students
13. Establishes and maintains standards of pupil conduct in alignment with the Parent/Student Handbook and PBIS in order to provide for a safe, orderly, productive environment
14. Works collaboratively with classroom teachers, administration and families to improve academic performance
15. Works with classroom teachers to carry out the philosophy of the adopted Tier I language arts curriculum
16. Monitors placement of all supplemental reading materials
17. Assists teachers in use of all components of the language arts curriculum
18. Assists with parent conferences if requested
19. Supports guest teachers in providing quality reading instruction
20. Conducts district workshops on reading development
21. Demonstrates and instructs new reading materials, methods/strategies for teachers and students
22. Maintains reading materials inventory and assist the Teaching and Learning Department in ordering reading materials
23. Assists in evaluating the language arts curriculum (Tier1, Tier 2, Tier
3)
24. Works directly or indirectly with students and progress monitors within the RtI framework
25. Assumes other reading program tasks as they arise
26. Participates in Problem Solving / Intervention Team meetings on an as needed basis
27. Maintains accurate, complete and up-to-date records of student attendance, projects, and grades
28. Uses a variety of avenues to communicate regularly with parents and school personnel regarding students' levels and rates of progress
29. Gathers and maintains up-to-date records of student grades and assessment data to assist in the placement of students
30. Administers state and local standardized ability and achievement tests and interpret results to determine student strengths and areas of need
32. Attends and participates in team, department, faculty meetings, and professional development
33. Keeps up to date with developments in subject area, teaching resources and methods and makes relevant changes to instructional plans and activities to meet the needs of all students
