Community Trust Credit Union is seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Human Resources Generalist to support our team in Lake County, IL. This full-time role is ideal for an HR professional who enjoys balancing strategic people initiatives with hands-on daily support. The Human Resources Generalist will help strengthen our workplace culture, support employees and leaders, and ensure HR programs are administered accurately, confidentially, and in compliance with employment laws.
In this role, you will contribute to talent acquisition, onboarding, employee relations, benefits administration, compliance, training, workforce planning, and HR recordkeeping. You will be a trusted partner to employees and leadership while helping maintain a positive, professional, and service-focused work environment.
What You ll DoAs our Human Resources Generalist, you will support the full employee lifecycle, from sourcing and interviewing candidates to coordinating onboarding and orientation for new team members. You will help manage performance evaluation processes, support training and development initiatives, and assist with succession planning and talent management efforts that promote long-term organizational success.
You will also administer key HR programs, including benefits, FMLA, workers compensation, payroll-related processes, and employee records. A strong commitment to confidentiality, accuracy, and service will be essential as you respond to employee questions, maintain HR data, and help ensure compliance with employment and labor laws.
This position will partner closely with leaders and employees to resolve workplace concerns, strengthen communication, and support a positive culture. You will also assist with HR projects, process improvements, workforce management initiatives, and other administrative responsibilities that help the organization operate effectively.
Requirements for the Human Resources Generalist RoleResponsibilities
- Lead recruiting, interviewing, onboarding, and orientation activities using ATS and HRIS tools.
- Support employee relations, conflict resolution, performance evaluations, and training and development programs.
- Administer benefits programs, including FMLA, workers compensation, leave administration, and related employee support.
- Maintain accurate HR records, assist with payroll processing, and complete data collection and entry with a high level of accuracy.
- Ensure compliance with employment laws, labor regulations, affirmative action requirements, and internal HR policies.
- Participate in HR projects, workforce planning, organization design, and process improvement initiatives.
- Experience in human resources management or a generalist HR role with knowledge of employment law and HR compliance.
- Strong understanding of talent acquisition, employee relations, benefits administration, workforce management, and change management.
- Excellent communication, organization, confidentiality, and problem-solving skills.
- Familiarity with FMLA, workers compensation, payroll processes, employee records, and legal compliance requirements.
- Bachelor s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field preferred; relevant HR certifications are a plus.
- Demonstrated ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple tasks efficiently.
- Willing to work extended hours when needed or requested by management, and respond to after-hours or emergency requests across all offices.
- Ability to travel between branches in Lake County, Illinois, on a regular basis.
Budgeted starting rate: $29.75/hour.

Matching Contributions after 1000 hours of service, 21 years of age and six months of employment. You may begin your contribution on the first pay period of the calendar quarter after one full month of employment. Entry is quarterly.
Safe Harbor contributions. CTCU provides every eligible employee a contribution of 3% of compensation. In order to participate in the employer contributions under Safe Harbor, you must be 21 years of age, have 12 months of service and work at least 1,000 hours during that 12 months. Safe Harbor funds are 100% vested and employees who have met eligibility requirements are eligible to receive the Safe Harbor contribution by completing one hour of service.
Safe Harbor entry is semi-annually.
