Summary

The Assistant in Training (AIT) and Assistant Manager positions primarily serve to fulfill Buckle’s mission: “to create the most enjoyable shopping experience possible for our Guests.” AITs perform a variety of sales, merchandising, and operational tasks (cashiering, merchandise display, register procedures, routine cleaning). In addition, AITs work with the Store Manager and Leadership Team to develop sales, recruit new teammates, and provide leadership.

AITs share responsibility for training and motivating teammates and act as the Store Manager in their absence.

Compensation & Benefits

Pay range: $18‑$22/hr (base plus commission for sales positions).

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

This description outlines the general nature and level of work performed by teammates assigned to this job. The role requires performance of the following duties:

Sales Generation and Guest Service
  • Greet guests with a friendly and engaging attitude and provide legendary service.
  • Answer questions regarding store and merchandise assertively.
  • Recommend, select, and help locate merchandise based on guest needs.
  • Anticipate and fulfill guests’ needs by suggesting additional items.
  • Demonstrate products utilizing knowledge and shared education with teammates.
  • Maintain knowledge of sales, promotions, policies, and security practices.
  • Achieve personal sales-per-hour, average sales, and net sales goals set by management.
  • Provide service throughout the store in key areas:
    Front 5, sales floor, fitting rooms, register.
  • Know exchange and return procedures and use them as show‑making opportunities.
  • Complete and use the Sales Presentation Guide daily to achieve goals.
  • Meet or exceed performance standards in guest loyalty and business builders.
  • Expand guest selection through inventory management and digital tools.
  • Build good guest relationships to develop client‑based business.
  • Lead by example with showmanship, excellent service, and attentiveness.
  • Recognize and communicate guest levels with the team.
  • Ask business‑driven questions to managers and teammates.
  • Accept and act on feedback to improve sales presentations.
  • Exercise leadership actions and maintain standards even when manager absent.
  • Plan sales goals with the Store Manager.
  • Demonstrate ownership of store sales performance.
  • Show passion for product education and showmanship.
Teammate Recruiting, Training and Development
  • Identify recruiting opportunities using jobs & careers cards, email referrals, and teammate recommendations.
  • Coach and build relationships through Guest Loyalty and Guest Preferred.
  • Develop skills and lead new teammates to meet accountability, shift orientation, loss prevention, and sales presentation standards.
  • Maintain a positive attitude and foster a positive floor culture.
  • Demonstrate personal dress code and coach teammates on fashion.
  • Participate in daily setup, training, and performance tracking.
  • Motivate teammates to complete daily tasks set by management.
  • Promote denim showmanship and fitting through teammates and guests.
  • Create and develop results in department, balancing medium‑week check‑ins.
  • Execute actions from departmental calendars and track via delegation worksheets.
  • Demonstrate leadership during segments.
  • Involve guests with product and update fellow leaders and teammates.
  • Remember and use guest names.
  • Explain product for both gals and guys sides effectively.
  • Collaborate with Store Manager to set education focus and delegate weekly.
