Role Summary
Responsible for providing end-to-end customs and trade advisory, with a strong focus on litigation management, regulatory interpretation, tariff classification, and customs valuation.
The role involves handling complex disputes with customs authorities / DRI and advising internal stakeholders on Litigation / classification strategies and ensuring compliance with Indian Customs laws and global trade regulations.
The Role would also require to understand and updates regarding Customs operations in Nepal, Bangladesh and Srilanka
Key Responsibilities
Manage and support customs litigation including SCNs, adjudication, appeals, and representation before appellate authorities (Commissioner Appeals)
Litigation & Dispute Management
Draft and review reply to Show Cause Notices, appeal memos, written submissions, and legal opinions
Coordinate with external counsels, advocates, and consultants on litigation strategy
Track case progress, maintain litigation MIS, and assess exposure and risk
Classification & Trade Advisory
Provide tariff classification advisory under the Customs Tariff Act and HS Code framework
Conduct classification reviews for imports and exports, including advance rulings
Support classification dispute resolution and re-classification
Advise on customs valuation, exemptions, FTP benefits, and trade remedies
Monitor changes in customs law, notifications, circulars, and case laws
Stakeholder & Business Support
Act as a key advisor to internal teams (procurement, supply chain, finance, logistics and SAARC Nations)
Audits, investigations, and departmental inquiries
Assist in structuring cross-border transactions from a customs and trade perspective
Deliver training sessions and knowledge updates to internal teams
Compliance & Risk Management
Review customs processes and documentation to identify compliance gaps
Support internal reviews and risk assessments
Ensure adherence to Indian customs regulations and global trade best practices
Key Skills & Competencies
Strong knowledge of Indian Customs law, HS classification, and litigation procedures
Excellent drafting and legal interpretation skills
Analytical mindset with attention to detail
Ability to manage multiple cases and deadlines
Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
Proficiency in using customs portals (e.g., ICEGATE, SEZ Online, DGFT).
