Job Description: To help provide a smoothly functioning class environment in which students can take full advantage of the instructional program and available resource materials.

Qualifications: Certified Para Professional, 48 hours college credit, or must pass Para‑professional test. Demonstrates aptitude for successful completion of assigned task.

Reports To: Principal and Teacher

• Assists teacher in the educational process of special needs students.
• Assists students to and from buses.
• Monitors student if in isolation.
• Feeds and eats with students during lunch.
• Goes out to recess with students when needed.
• Takes students to and from bathroom.
• Works with students one‑on‑one for tutoring.
• Assists regular teacher with grading papers.
• Maintains classroom materials.
• Assists wheelchair‑ and physically handicapped students loading/unloading the bus.
• Assists physically handicapped students getting to other classes.
• Assists physically handicapped students with their feeding and toilet needs.
• Assists special education students in mainstreamed classes when needed.
• Assists with duplicating needed materials and helps with special education forms when asked.
• Helps with bulletin boards.
• Takes over the special education class when the teacher is absent.
• Performs other tasks and assumes responsibilities as the principal or teacher may assign from time to time.
