Guthrie House is seeking Casual Recovery Support Workers to support women and children living in our residential alcohol and other drug recovery service.

This is a practical, relationship-based role. You will spend your shifts building respectful relationships, supporting daily routines and recovery activities, and helping maintain a safe and welcoming home environment.

Shifts are primarily evenings and weekends, with some public holiday work. Availability during these times is essential.

You will work independently during rostered shifts, with support from an experienced multidisciplinary team, established procedures and on-call arrangements.

Guthrie House does not employ men. This is a genuine occupational qualification under section 31 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977 (NSW). We welcome applications from women and non-binary people.

ABOUT GUTHRIE HOUSE

Guthrie House is a specialist residential AOD recovery service for women, including women who are pregnant or accompanied by their children.

Located on Gadigal Land in Enmore, we support women whose lives may also be affected by trauma, mental health challenges, homelessness and contact with the criminal legal system.

Our work is grounded in respect, compassion, cultural safety and recognition of each woman's strengths and individual circumstances.

WHAT YOU'LL DO
  • Build respectful and trusting relationships with residents.
  • Support daily routines, shared living and practical tasks.
  • Encourage participation in recovery activities and appointments.
  • Help women build life skills, confidence and independence.
  • Support pregnant women, mothers and accompanying children.
  • Provide short-term supervision of children when required.
  • Facilitate informal activities that promote connection and wellbeing.
  • Respond to distress using established plans and procedures.
  • Complete case notes, incident documentation and shift handovers.
  • Work collaboratively with the case management and clinical team.
Requirement ABOUT YOU

You will be reliable, approachable and able to support women without judgement while maintaining clear professional boundaries.

We welcome applicants with:
  • Experience working in alcohol and other drugs, residential support, mental health, homelessness or community services; and/or
  • A relevant qualification in alcohol and other drugs, community services, social work, mental health or a related field; or
  • Current studies in a relevant field, with at least one completed placement.

You will also need:

An understanding of trauma-informed and recovery-oriented practice.

A commitment to culturally safe practice and an understanding of the impacts of colonisation and intergenerational trauma.

Good communication and documentation skills.

The ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Availability for evening and weekend shifts.

A current NSW Driver Licence.

A First AInd Certificate, or willingness to obtain one.

First Nations applicants may also demonstrate suitability through cultural knowledge, lived experience or community leadership.
