• Greet, assist, and ring out all customers politely
• Maintain company standards for perishables and stay up to date on all active safety procedures
• Ensure Health and Safety Codes, check pricing and expiration, and maintain an organizational standard area
• Check, record, and retain cooler/freezer temperatures and maintenance
• Stay up to date and in congruence with Health and Safety standards, and hold a working knowledge of cleaning supplies, chemicals, and machines within the department
• Verify and adjust the display of product so that displays are full, color contrast is emphasized, product is rotated, commodities are grouped, tables are set to the season, and adequate space has been allocated for high impulse/demand items
• Perform preparation of the backroom for receipt of merchandise, check the load for quality/shortage/overage, code‑date all case items in the cooler, sort cases by quality and ripeness, store back stock, and verify merchandise against the invoice
• Comprehend and provide complex verbal instructions and descriptions concerning store policy, procedures, and equipment usage
• Organize the cooler/freezer/preparation area for receipt of merchandise, verify merchandise against the invoice, inspect deliveries for shortages/damage and quality, sort cases for stocking or product preparation, and code‑date all case items in the cooler/freezer
• Compute retail price from cost, complete price changes, maintain PLU file and scale system, and supervise manual price‑marking/labeling of merchandise without a UPC code
• Move damaged, unsalable, or returnable products from shelves to the backroom, sort materials, return damaged product to the warehouse for credit, and re‑process product for sale or mark it down in price

Produce Clerk reports directly to the Produce Department Manager.

• Basic Mathematics (Add, subtract, multiply, divide)
• High School Diploma or Equivalent
• Prior experience with produce in a grocery setting

• Lift, twist, move and carry a maximum of 50 lbs. from the floor to shelving, or overhead racks in the store and cooler/freezer
• Maintain active signage and pricing in all departmental areas
• Care for signs, banners, and debris from daily operations

Inside work with transitions of heat/cold/humidity/dust from backdoor/compressors/cooler/freezer/preparation area.
