Position: Livestock Scaler (C Shift)

We have an exciting Livestock Scaler opportunity in Guymon, OK. In this highly impactful role, you will be responsible for accurate weighing of hogs received or purchased for harvesting purposes. Adhering to all state and federal regulations as outlined in the United States Department of Agriculture and the Packers and Stockyards Administration Instructions for weighing livestock. Works with the receiving personnel on department assignments as well as communicating effectively with stockyards personnel.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Accurate weighing of hogs.
  • Assignment of pen details and tattoo numbers.
  • Maintaining collaborative working relationships with USDA officials.
  • Maintaining excellent communication with all stockyard employees.
  • Maintaining the upkeep of the scale and reporting any malfunctions to the appropriate management team member.
  • Opens gates and drives livestock to scales, pens, trucks, holding, and harvesting areas according to instructions when needed.
  • Weighs animals and records weights.
  • Adheres to all company policies and procedures regarding weights, quality, and handling practices of hogs.
  • Cross-trains on other jobs within the procurement department.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Previous experience with animal handling, weighing, and use of scales for weighing trucks and trailers is preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents in the English language, such as safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence as needed. Spanish bilingual skills preferred.
  • Ability to apply mathematical concepts to practical situations. Basic math is required; knowledge of statistical process control is preferred, not necessary.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Must be able to make decisions on routine matters utilizing company policies and procedures and directions from upper management.
WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and is commonly exposed to airborne particles and gases at low concentrations. The employee is frequently exposed to waste material, feed, and hog dust.
