Staff Accountant

 Bergen County, NJ | Cosmetics/Consumer Products | Full-Time

A well-established, employee-centric cosmetics company in Bergen County, NJ is seeking a technically strong Staff Accountant with hands-on SAP experience. This role is highly accounting-focused and will support the integrity of the general ledger, month-end close, internal controls, and financial reporting processes.

This position is ideal for an accountant who thrives in a structured, control-driven environment and wants exposure to full-cycle accounting within a collaborative finance team.

Position Summary

The Staff Accountant will be responsible for supporting the monthly close process, maintaining accurate general ledger activity, managing AR/AP processing within SAP, performing reconciliations, and assisting with intercompany and commission reporting. The role requires strong technical accounting skills, attention to detail, and a solid understanding of internal controls.

Key Responsibilities

General Ledger & Month-End Close

+ Prepare and post monthly journal entries in SAP (accruals, reclasses, commissions, royalties, intercompany activity)

+ Assist with monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes

+ Perform detailed general ledger account reconciliations

+ Prepare periodic intercompany reconciliation reports and resolve variances

+ Maintain and reconcile the fixed asset schedule, including additions and disposals

Reporting & Analysis

+ Prepare month-end commission and royalty reports

+ Generate quarterly reporting schedules as directed

+ Prepare invoices to group affiliates and ensure proper supporting documentation

+ Assist with audit support and documentation requests

Cash & Accounts Receivable

+ Administer daily cash receipts processing and apply payments to open receivables in SAP

+ Perform financial system precoding and ensure accurate posting to the GL

+ Prepare cash receipts for deposit

+ Perform daily cash reconciliations and investigate discrepancies

+ Maintain supporting documentation in accordance with internal control requirements

Accounts Payable

+ Process vendor invoices from receipt through approval and posting in SAP

+ Execute payment runs and distribute vendor payments

+ Maintain vendor master data in SAP

+ Ensure compliance with internal controls and proper documentation retention

+ Monitor AP aging and assist with vendor inquiries

Requirements

Qualifications

+ Bachelor's degree in Accounting (required)

+ 2-4+ years of progressive accounting experience

+ Strong SAP experience (FI/CO preferred)

+ Solid understanding of GAAP and internal control environments

+

Experience with month-end close and GL reconciliations

+ Strong Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups, reconciliations)

+ High attention to detail and strong analytical skills
