Definition
Assists the Director by performing varied, advanced fiscal, clerical and program support functions. The duties for this title are for illustrative purposes only. DutiesUnder direction, corresponds with Fire, EMS, and Law Enforcement entities, as well as other County Departments. Prepares clear, sound, accurate, and comprehensive reports, establishes and maintains suitable records and files, and assists with meeting preparation and meeting minutes. Prepare statistical or other needed reports. Demonstrates ability to independently and accurately perform varied, complex administrative secretarial, advanced clerical, and program support functions.
Strong computer literacy and proficiency with working knowledge of Microsoft Office software programs. Will be required to learn to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the County. Exercises independent judgement and ability to make decisions in accordance with delegated responsibilities. Ensure deadlines are met. Handle all training courses for the Fire Academy and preparation for firefighter graduation.
Under direction, process payroll for Emergency Communications and Fire Academy staff.
- Expertise in office management, including preparation of minutes, special projects, and related responsibilities.
- Ability to work effectively and harmoniously with members of the governing body, Department Heads, Fire, EMS, Law Enforcement and the Public.
- Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate work in situations where numerous diverse demands are involved.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills for internal and external communication.
- Knowledge of budgets, including purchase orders
Five (5) years of professional experience in a business or government agency providing administrative support services and/or coordinating work activities OR possession of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university plus one (1) year of the above-mentioned professional experience.
HoursTypical work shifts are 8:30 am – 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday; however, flexibility to work some nights and weekends on an as‑needed basis is preferred.
LicenseAppointee will be required to possess a driver’s license valid in New Jersey.
