Salary
The salary range for this position is $49,059.79 to $73,196.51 for Schedule A, and $49,059.79 to $69,536.67 for Schedule
B. For newly hired individuals, the starting salary will normally be at the minimum of the salary range. For current Judiciary employees, salary upon promotion or advancement will be an increase of 5% of base salary, not to exceed the maximum of the range, or the minimum salary of the band/level, whichever is greater.
We are seeking a reliable, well‑organized, detail‑oriented secretary to support a Superior Court Judge in the Civil Division’s Special Civil Unit. The role requires strong keyboarding, technical, and administrative skills. This is a full‑time, temporary position that will last approximately through mid‑June 2027 and includes excellent health benefits, paid holidays and vacation time.
Responsibilities- Provide technical assistance to the judge
- Distribute and conform judge's orders or requests
- Coordinate availability and technology capabilities of court users for remote court hearings
- Communicate judge's schedule with division scheduling coordinator
- Prepare and submit reports
- Compile case documents and organize case jackets
- Review and update case data in our data systems
- Sort and distribute chamber's mail
- Type and/or prepare contracts or legal documents
- Compose correspondence
- Answer inquiries from the public
- Edit and proofread letters, documents or articles
- File records, reports, forms, letters or other written documents
- Perform other related duties as assigned
- Maintain regular and predictable physical presence at the worksite
- Three (3) years of experience in an office environment performing a variety of clerical and support services, including keyboarding and one or more of the following: preparing and analyzing legal documents, processing legal or other documents, transcribing information, and scheduling meetings or appointments.
- Substitution: A clerical training program with a minimum of 700 classroom training hours or 30 semester‑hour credits in secretarial science may substitute for one (1) year of required experience. Coursework must include typing skills, methods, and procedures; other courses may include office procedures, word processing, and business English.
- Knowledge of legal terminology and working knowledge of Microsoft Office is helpful.
- Driver's license:
Appointee must possess a valid New Jersey driver’s license if operation of a vehicle is necessary for essential duties. - Authorization to work:
Selected candidate must be authorized to work in the United States under U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services regulations. U.S. citizenship is not required.
Newly hired employees must agree to a thorough background check that will include fingerprinting. All data received will be kept in strict confidence except to inform the individual of the findings and the action to be taken.
Residency RequirementIn accordance with N.J.S.A. 52:14‑7, all newly hired employees must establish and maintain principal residence in New Jersey within one year of hire. Exemptions may be requested under hardship or employer critical need.
